SU Retirement Predictions?

Forgive me if this question has been posted. And feel free to link me to the thread(s). I searched and failed to find anything.

Which stamps do you think SU will retire?
Are there any you really hope they do retire?
Any you hope stay for sure?

I predict:
-Dasher
-Batty For You
-Snow Swirled (which would make me sad)
-Delightful Decorations (another one that would make me sad)
-Lovely as Tree

And pretty much most of the ones that are wood mount only. The only other one that is WM only that I think I still want is "Thoughts and Prayers.' With the WM only stamps, I've decided I will only buy them once they hit the retirement list.

Anyone else have ideas? Is it bad that I cant wait to see the list? What time will it be available? I have church at 8; I'm teaching Sunday school.

RosieLP 04-14-2012 12:06 PM

What I'd like is if SU would retire everything that's been in 2 catalogs.

Cartermrc 04-14-2012 02:15 PM

The sales volume of sets makes a difference. Has to be why we're still seeing Lovely as a Tree after how many years?

Otherwise:
-It's a Wrap. Hershey doesn't want us sticking labels directly on the Nuggets and covering up the label, etc. Sure you can stamp on cs then wrap those around the candy but that wasn't the original idea.
-Some of the wood mounted only Halloween and Christmas sets.
-Sparkling Jumbo wheel since they've already retired the set that went with it.
-Many Mustaches single stamp. I haven't seen anyone use this one that I can recall.
-Several wheel stamps.
-All of the hostess sets, but they do that every year anyway.
-At least 2 of the 2-step floral sets.

rollyfan 04-14-2012 02:55 PM

When they say it's out on the 15th... what time does it go live, does anyone know?

cardmaker2 04-14-2012 03:50 PM

I don't have much to add except that I wish every single year that Loads of Love and all that goes with it would retire. Also Lovely as a Tree. Just make a new tree set... and don't bother remaking the Loads of Love at all.

I didn't remember it is posted tomorrow so I will be watching with interest.

Scrapmomoftwins 04-14-2012 04:04 PM

The Crazy Cupcakes and Build-a-Bear sets have been around for a while, so those can go. I love florals, but there are a lot of those that have been in a couple catalogs too.

My consultant told us that the list of retiring stamps would be much larger than usual. She also said that the new catalog would be smaller than usual, but the minis throughout the year would be larger.

I wonder how many sets from previous minis will be in the new catalog? There were several last time.

I always have a hard time when the retired list comes out because I am torn between buying sets I have liked for a while versus waiting to see if there is something new and better coming out.

Unless the set retires in its first year, I have started to be realistic about it all. I may have liked it for awhile, but apparently not enough to buy it over the time it has been available. It isn't like they are suddenly clearance priced, so I would rather wait and check out the new stuff. Besides, once the new catty is out, a lot of demos sell their retired sets at a discount to make room for the new sets.

crazysuziestamper 04-15-2012 04:37 AM

When does the list come out?

CindyLouStamps 04-15-2012 04:39 AM

The retired list IS here!!!

Check out stampinpretty.com for a copy of your own list.

I can read it on my computer, but can't print, it cuz I'm out of color.

cardmaker2 04-15-2012 05:33 AM

Just a quick, quick look, but... Loads of Love is gone!! Yayyy!! That will make room for 3 or 4 more sets as they took up 2 pages :)

I apologize if anyone is offended by my glee... I'm sure lots of people like those stamps. But I sure don't.

My favorite stamp in the catalog is Awash with flowers and it is retiring. Luckily, I ordered it a few days ago........

I was sorry to see that set go. I had that set for awhile now and I just made a card with it for the first time a few days ago.

NWstamper 04-15-2012 08:43 AM

I heard that Shelli said at Leadership this year that Lovely as a Tree is still one of their top selling stamps so it won't be going anywhere for a while (which is great by me!) Its a huge retiring list this year and I'll really miss some (like Sincere Salutations) but I'm looking forward to see what is new and fresh in the upcoming catalog.

For those of you who haven't seen the list, here is the direct link - http://204.228.150.61/docs/lastchanc...0412_en-US.pdf

I just tried printing the list, both in color and black and white, and the print is so small and so light I can hardly read it. I've also tried converting it to both word and excel with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Julie

BTW, it's not because my ink is low - I've checked!

You're not the only one having problems printing this list. Did you see this excel version? Maybe you could try printing this? Hope that helps!

You're welcome, glad I was able to help :)

allee's 04-15-2012 10:02 AM

Thanks, Patty! I was going blind trying to read that first one!

Alice in Md 04-15-2012 11:12 AM

Kudos to Patty for posting the Excel list! It's handy to have the designs on the SU! list, but it's ever more important to be able to read the list and have it in page number order. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Cartermrc 04-15-2012 11:24 AM

Thanks for the Excel file, I can actually read it! The one set I still want to get is Jolly Bingo Bits and it's staying-hooray, I can get it in the fall after the new catalog and Holiday Mini come out.

rollyfan 04-15-2012 11:43 AM

Aaack... how will I ever narrow my list down???

Please give me your thoughts on these:

p19 Christmas Postcard
p119 Cottage Garden
p19 - Dasher
p88 Fox & Friends
p107 Friends Never Fade
p122 Nature's Nest
p104 Nature Silhouettes
p120 Plant Hope
p28 Studio Sketches
p101 Uncharted Territory

And these are just images; haven't even figured out sentiments/verses yet.

ttemby 04-15-2012 12:51 PM

Uncharted Territory I would say is a must have! Another great guy set and I've used it for sympathy cards also.

Dasher is great for quick Christmas cards. Christmas Postcard also, but if you color it in could take some time!

Friends Never Fade I like, but never really used much. Goes with the Beyond the Garden d.p. and looks great together!

One of my favorites too. I've had it since it came out and was suprised it was going. I'll use it for a long time. It makes the greatest cards ;)

cardmaker2 04-15-2012 03:40 PM

I actually never order anything that is retiring. I just am curious what is going. And excited about all the space for new sets in the new catalogue!

indyemmert 04-15-2012 03:54 PM

I have learned over the years that I will almost always choose new over old. So I rarely keep (and never buy) retired sets. Most of the ones I've kept are sentiments that I really like.

melissa59 04-15-2012 04:13 PM

When does their retirement go into effect?
What happens to the retired items?
Are they sold until gone? Are they moved to the clearance rack? Or are they just discontinued and never to be seen again?

There are a couple items that I'd like to have, including Tiny Teacup, but I had other plan for my April spending and I need to decided if I'm going to stick with the plan or deviate.

I guess this is a good way to clear out your stash, if you have a lot of stamps. I don't have a lot of stamps. Most of what I do have date back to1997 and with the exception of one or two sets, I can't bear the thought of giving them up.

happyinker 04-15-2012 04:21 PM

Stamps never move to the clearance rack, only accessories. These will be available until June 1st, after that they are gone.

lmcgraw01 04-15-2012 05:27 PM

I'm confused about why people need the page number, when you can just go to the website and click on "Retiring Products"? It is the easiest that I have ever been able to look at retiring stamps.

kphorse 04-15-2012 06:51 PM

Some people collect the catalogs and we like to make them!

Ok, here is the deal:

Stamps are made by SU so they will fill ALL orders for them. Accessories (including wheels) are only a while supplies last deal. Some of them will sell out fast so it's best to get what you want soon (the accessories list will come out on the 25th). We already know the "old" in colors (2010-2012) are going and in color sell out FAST! If you want to stock up on them, do it fast.

As far as the clearance rack, stamps never make it. Since SU makes them, they can control their numbers and don't have an excess to sell off. Accessories may or may not show up depending on inventory and you never know how quickly or slow they could show up. There are things posted now on the CR that are from YEARS ago and some from the most recent holiday mini....you just don't know.

Did I answer all your questions????

LaLatty 04-16-2012 10:41 AM

I'm so glad I was able to help you all with the excel version of the retirement list. Oh...I'm going to miss so many of the retired sets....!

Is it strictly sales that they use to figure out which sets to take out of the catty every year?

Oddesigns 04-17-2012 04:35 AM

I think I'm experiencing Stampin Up! fatigue. Every year I go through the list of retiring stamps to see what I want to buy before it goes away. This year, I can't bring myself to care. Maybe because I went to a new catalog party in August and put in a big order, then joined a monthly stamp club that ran for 6 months, then put in a huge SAB order?

I am excited to see the new in colors, at least. :)

mamaxsix 04-17-2012 04:47 AM

This is my first year (in a long time) where I'm approaching the list just as a customer instead of a demo. It is a BIG list and I'm sure hit some demos pretty hard. As a demo, it was rare for me to purchase from the retiring stamps though I did hit the accessories pretty hard sometimes as I also make and sell cards.
I don't think anyone knows the precise reasoning behind what retires. Looks to me like they're finally clearing out most of the wood only stuff so maybe what is left will start to be offered in clear also.

Minders 04-17-2012 05:09 AM

Yeah they DO use sales data but I'm sure they use other things too like what's hot/trends and stuff like that. I'm sure they have some sort of "formula". Wish I knew what it was just for fun:-)

ch 04-20-2012 07:48 PM

I'm happy with the retired list. I'm a demo but just for myself so it really doesn't matter what I use. I find that I'm ready to get rid of retired sets and use something new. Just like I want a new purse each spring and a cute new pair of flats. I want new, fresh stamps too!
Change is good I think!
I didn't get rid of the rose stamp that was so beautiful and popular several years ago. But it hasn't seen ink for years.
