Exclamation No Hammer Eyelets

I found this wonderful site for eyelets and they even have some that you set without a hammer or setter. It says to use a ballpoint pen. I ordered some and will be getting them soon. I have a Cliket and like it very much so I don't care if I have to set them or not. I thought all you night workers who are concerned about the noise might be interested in this. Here'e the site address..

This sounds very interesting. You'll have to let us know if you like them once you try them.

I've ordered from the Eyelet Outlet and they are great! My order came so fast! I saw their "hammerless" eyelets but haven't ordered. . .yet.

Default keep us posted, please....

I can only work at night or during nap time (unless I want little helper hands ;-) . I thought I would attempt some eyeletting the other night...just had to do it and surely it wouldn't wake them up...wrong! Had to do bedtime all over again! I have tried to go outside, but the aggregate patio hurts my backside

I've tried them. I'm still on the fence. I had to really rotate the pen around to get 'em to set, and even then, they don't flatten out and I had to take a hammer to 'em to totally "flatten" them as I wanted, for a snug fit. :( It took me "longer" to set them using that method than a quick tapping with my hammer and reg. eyelet tool . . .

Someone here (a fellow demo'r) told me that you can actually do the same with SU! eyelets, altho I personally haven't tried it yet? I should, just to fill my curiosity. She swore it can be done, tho, not with the gold tone ones as they are too hard (brass); the others are all soft aluminum!

I have used so many other brands - I'm hooked on SU ones. THey coordinate so well and hammer so easily.

Just my 2 cents!

Thumbs up

I set my eyelets using my needle nosed pliers. This only works with SU! eyelets, though...

Have any of you tried using the 1/8th and 1/16th hand punches to set your eyelets? This works awesome for any that are in reach of the punches from the edge of your paper but if they are in the middle then... you would still need a hammer! But it is Very Very quiet for setting during naps! It doesn't work with the gold eyelets though! It will break your punches.

I cannot endorse this method, sadly. After ALL the hype about how it could be done, I FINALLY ordered the 1/16" and 1/8" punches that we carry.

UNFORTUNATELY, THIS METHOD NO LONGER WORKS. Why? Well, I found out:

Fiskars released their own spring-loaded setter tool, and revamped the length of the protruding 1/16" punch to make it long enough it will no longer slip over the flange of the eyelets.

Fiskars knew folks were using their punch with this method, but with the release of a new (and pricier) product for setting eyelets, who would buy it???? Nobody, 'cuz all they would have to do is buy the 1/16" punch.

Naturally, Fiskars wants to sell that eyelet tool, in addition, to their punches.

Those who have purchased the punches for this method as recently as 6-9 mos. ago were finding that this method doesn't work, including myself. Some of my downline had purchased the punches prior to this modification, and were not aware of these changes . . . until they had to deal with unhappy customers . . .

I was not happy, but, in all honesty, Fiskars never designed their punches to be used in this fashion, and they never promoted it as a method for setting eyelets, either . . .

The other drawback to the method, is that they will reach only so far; if you're trying to set in the center of a card, you're toast! :(

Another point: Even if you were lucky enough to purchase your 1/16" punch prior to the modifications, the method doesn't work on all brands of eyelets! It only works on soft aluminum ones, like SU!'s and it doesn't work at all on ANY brand of gold eyelets because those are made of brass and are too hard in many instances even for the traditional hammer method.
