Question what to write?

I'm sending a card to a friend whose husband is seriously ill. Probably terminally ill.
I know her through garden club and have only met her husband a few times.
I'm sending a Thinking of You card, but what do I write inside?

I find at times like this, all I can say is something like: "my thoughts (and prayers?) are with you and your family at this difficult time."

Words just seem inadequate at times, but letting the person know you're thinking of them means a lot.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Barb, something along the lines of keeping them in your thoughts and prayers.

I also agree on the wording. It is hard to know what to say even if you know the person well. Something you could add is that you would like to bring them dinner one night and tell her you will call in so many days to see what evening would be best for them. I have found that taking dinner in stressful times is such a blessing to the receiver. Just a thought!

Write whatever is on your heart. It doesn't have to be profound, but it does have to be true and sincere. Obviously "something" prompted you to send the card, the same "something" will prompt you in what to write. (In my case the something is the Holy Spirit, but I don't know you so I can't say what prompted you in the first place.)

One thing I try to do sometimes is to not make the illness the biggest thing, if you see what I mean. So even though it's what prompted you to send the card, you don't have to make it the exclusive focus. You can say "I'm thinking of you and thought a little card might make you smile" and then give them a little bit of your own news - you obviously share an interest in gardens so maybe tell them what's happening in yours right now? People are still people even when they're ill and often they like to hear about stuff outside their own immediate situation as a little bit of 'normality'.
