Question Going to Ikea tomorrow... what do I need????

I am going to Ikea tomorrow afternoon with my best friend and we'd love some suggestions on things you've found there for organizing stamping/scrapbooking supplies, or anything else that is stamp/scrap related. Any alterable items? Any help (and enabling) is greatly appreciated (and strongly encouraged)!

Thanks

A day pack, some jerky, water to stay hydrated. Bread crumbs to find your way back...Perhaps a blister kit. You know the usual;-)

Here's a thread about a great way to organize your punches with something from IKEA:

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

I have also heard of people using the wall hanging DVD holders (Stackebo) to hold their stamp pads.

I just put up some flat black towel bar type things. The paper with them says "KROKEN". They come in 23 1/2 and 30" lengths and can be used alone to hang towels and punches. I also bought some small galvanized type pails (for scissors, ribbon, pencils etc) that hang from the bars and some shelves that will hold my jelly jars of ribbon. You can also get little hooks to hang other objects.

You should be aware that you need to purchase screws separately. I didn't do that while I was there and ended up getting some from Home Depot that were black and are supposed to be like screws and anchors combined. They are working very well.

I found the bars on the upper display floor near the kitchen section (MN store). The screws were in the lower level martetplace section near storage stuff.

There are other styles but the black looks right with my family room/stamp area.

sorry i can't help you... i am a cheap chick! 90% of my 'rubber room' is recycled and re purposed things.

i wouldn't know what to do with ALL NEW stuff!
i say make a list of how YOU like things to be stored...
paper- shelf
stamps- shelf
brads, eyelets...- drawer
punches- drawer
and go from there. map it out, to you get what you need for how you like your stuff. i doodled and drew a 'map' of how i wanted things stored.

I got some hanging wire baskets in the bathroom section to hold my punches...can't remember the funky name for them, but they are black wire and they have 2 shelves each. They come with an extra hook that I used to hang them from the side of my bookshelf (don't have much wall space). I got two and hung the second one under the first.

As for alterables, I got some plain wooden picture frames for really cheap and a neat mini easel (also plain wood) that is a perfect size for cards.

Have fun! I need to go back to IKEA soooooon!

Don't forget to rent a 16 wheeler

I'm seriously jealous of those of you who are close enough to Ikea. That is one thing I miss from the other side of the pond. I'm still hoping and praying they'll come to Iowa eventually.

i bought those little magnetic spice holder tins the last time i went; i love those bad boys! they were a little less than 8 euro for 3? and online they wanted like 25 dollars for five? (but they wouldn't ship over here anyways, so it doesn't matter) none the less; lots of cute things you could stick in there!

I went a couple of weeks ago to find stuff to organize my supplies. I don't know how much stuff you have, but the two things that I liked the most are these:

These wood mini cabinets I used to store embellisments (like flowers), misc inkpads, my cuttlebug folders and dies, and pens. CLICK HERE

I can't find the picture, but in the kitchen section of IKEA are these little jars with lids that I'm using for ribbon.

Oh, and I didn't get any, but they also have the cutest color buckets that would be perfect for something (I just haven't figured out what yet).

Love IKEA. Happy shopping!

My DH usually balks at the suggestion of going to IKEA - and the closest one is over 2 hours away so I don't get there often. He figures the maze-like layout is a fire hazard and you'd never find your way out in an emergency without a trail of some kind to follow. Your comment made me laugh...

And Mommy2Justin, hope your trip is successful!

My hubby doesn't ever, ever go to Ikea.... so I don't get there either, we are a couple hours away too. But my girlfriend picked up a DVD holder for me for 7$ and change, it holds 12 ink pads perfectly. I love it and will need another one soon.

Enjoy your trip!

I have wandered around IKEA a few times and have yet to spend even a dollar there. Some things look nice in a display room on the 2nd floor. But when you have to find the shelf on the first floor, then find the box and lug it to the checkout then get it home then assemble . . . no thanks!

Oooh...Love Ikea. Great prices. Get as much as you can....LOL Actually, why don't you make a layout of your room or space and think about what you have first. Do you need something to hold your paper? What about brads and metal thingys? Where are you storing your ribbon and EPs? Stamp sets? Individual stamps?

Some people here have given some really great ideas. I think that you should NOT overlook unexpected areas like the bathroom and kitchen. You might find some really neat things in there as well! Look at it and ask yourself, what could I use this for and go through your list of items.

Good luck and post some pictures when you are done!

Oh, Julie if only we were closer I'd pick you up and away we would go. I love, love, love IKEA. Closest one is 8 hours away. Believe me when I go I load up. The last time I was there I thought I was going to have to rent a U-Haul. 2 small butcher block tables, 1 - 79" table with 3 huge drawers, those t-towels racks and holders like inkpad had in her gallery today, 2 spice racks with the jars to fit into them, at least 10 IKEA catties for friends, 6 of the 4" white shelves about 4 feet long and a roll of paper usually the kids use to draw or paint on. My poor van was full plus all the rest of the shopping I had done all weekend in Calgary, plus suitcases. I was really thinking after I squished everything in - I hope I don't get a flat tire because their was no way I was going to get at the tire unless I unloaded everything. That was a 8 hour trip I'll never forget. What fun. Good thing you weren't with me that trip Julie cause you would have had to ride on the roof. (No room inside), hehe

Not that I have been to IKEA since before I really started stamping but when I was there last I pocked up some of the cardboard magazine holders and they were like 5 for $6 I think maybe less. They are great for holding CS and you can even decorate them.

I went, I saw, I bought! I took Chris' sage advice (and brilliant idea) and bought the towel holders to store my punches. I also bought an Aneboda cabinet to hold my stamps (this is my second one, the first is already full :shock I bought some inexpensive buckets to hang off of the towels holders to hold the smaller punches (thanks for the suggestion, Shannon). I bought some other miscellaneous little things and even picked up 2 plants! We had a great time! Thank you so much to everyone who responded to my plea! And JulieHRR, you would have been a very welcomed addition to our little group! Maybe next time! We went to the Ikea next to the Mall of America.... so much shopping in so little time!

Here are the links for the pictures I posted last night:

Bar with Buckets

Bar with punches

Bar with "spice" shelves

I couldn't find these on the Ikea website or the 2007 catalog for that matter. The name on the enclosed sheet was KROKEN.

Similar items - UTSAGA series - are on p. 52 of the catalog. The S hooks, which aren't in my picture, and the cutlery stand(pail) look much like what I have and the Spice rack is similar but mine is 11" x 12" instead of 13"x 13 3/4".

Now I'm thinking about going back sometime for boxes to better organize my card samples. I think I saw some black ones... maybe there should be an SCS Ikea Day!

The DVD holders that fit the SU stamp pads perfectly are the Stackebo holders and I believe they are $4.99 each. I also bought tons of the medium-sized apothecary jars for my ribbon and a few shadow-box type picture frames. Need to go back for more Stackebo ink holders but it's about 1-1/2 hours each way for me in Chicago traffic...

You need me in the seat next to you. LOL!

I love Ikea! They have so many cool things. Really, you just need a lot of time to walk around. As you see stuff, you'll get some great ideas! I know that's not real helpful but I saw the word IKEA and I just had to stop by!

Well, you all got me into the IKEA mood today. Unfortunately I didn't get my butt in gear until 6 tonight. I wanted the Utsaga series so I called and the store an hour away in Carson had some of the parts, and the Costa Mesa store had the rails. So off DH and I go. We head to Carson first (an hour drive) and then quickly rush off to the Costa Mesa store since they closed at 9. Unfortunately, they couldn't find the rails (the line has been discontinued). So I returned the pieces I got in Carson, and ended up getting the Kroken line of products. I got 2 rails, 2 spice racks and some white buckets to hang off of them. I'm hoping to decorate the buckets. We didn't leave there until 9:40 and they closed at 9. I'm thinking I'll probably go back in a few weeks and see what else I can find.

There is an IKEA next to the Mall of America and an archivers store in the mall. OMG I'd never get out of there. I have never been there but I'm sure planning a trip now. What else is there, please tell me so I know how many days to plan for, hehehe

 OMG! You got me HOWLING!!! pppppfffffffttttttttt!!! You better not, stinker! :p

I was completely unaware of what I'd done . . . and couldn't believe I was such a total DOPE!!! Aaaah, well. At least Carol has a good sense of humor and, I was relieved she didn't think I was an absolute ditz . . . *chuckle*!

Mebbe we should plan the great IKEA exodus to Tukwila (is it Tukwila???), and we can all gather, enable each other, and lunch on Swedish Meatballs! (I love those things!) *giggle*!

I have been eyeing the Vattern bathroom cabinets for stamps storage. It is basically a white book case that is only 7.5 inches deep. The dimensions are 15.75 X 7.5 X 76.75 inches (width X depth X height) and you can add as many shelves as you need at $2.50 each.

Hi--

Two years ago, I re-did my all my closets in IKEA. I use a total of two PAX units for my crafting stuff. The main one is a 39" unit; the other is a 19" unit. The 39" unit is around $75; the 19" around $64 when I got them. Doors are optional; I got mirrored ones at around $59 a pop (three doors--the 39" unit takes two) Inside, I have a mix of (mostly) pull-out shelves (around $35 each for the 39" unit? and around $24 for the 19" unit) The big unit is where I store 12 x 12 paper, my stamp sets, and almost all of my accessories, including ribbon, eyelets, embossing powder and supplies, brayer, punches, etc. on pull-out shelves. I have fixed shelves above eye-level where I have a fun display of (non-stamping) stuff and, above that, IKEA Cassett boxes which are great to store things (if memory serves, they are $11 for two). In the small unit, I have a fixed shelf for my stamp carsol and a pull-out shelf outfitted with a hanging file holder that holds my 8.5" x 11" card stock. That unit contains a lot of non-stamping things as well.

What I recommend if you can afford it is this: one 39" PAX unit with 8-11 so pull-out shelves and about 4 fixed shelves. That would probably take care of a LOT of your stampin' stuff.

If you are looking for small stuff, the Cassett boxes are great to organize supplies.

Happy stamping--

Anne-Marie

I posted a comment on Inkpad's pictures saying I couldn't go to the new Ikea store in my area as I still have two more weeks until I can buy craft supplies, but these Ikea things are "not craft supplies" are they?????
