Question about stmaping on envelopes that you send through the US mail......it is ok to stamp an image on the bottom corner of the envelope, isn't it????

Yes, I do it all the time. Really adds class to the whole thing IMO.

I stamp all over envelopes and have never had a problem.

I recently started doing this after seeing an envelope from a card company with pre-printed doodles on it. Figured, if they can do it, so can I :)

I've stamped the envelopes for years. I received one envelope years ago that was completely stamped. The person did use a label for the address though.

Yes, you can stamp anywhere on the envelope. If one postal machine can't find a spot to "spray" the neon-orange barcode that sometimes gets sprayed on the back, or a black barcode on the front, the letter goes through another machine that puts on a sticker (which is easily removeable by the recipient) so the other machines can spray on a barcode. If all the machines fail to read it, it gets sent to be sorted by hand. So stamp away!

Absolutely. I never send out a "naked" envelope!

Did you know that you can send any shape in the mail? I'm talking a tennis shoe for example. Just put an address on it, postage and away it goes.

Oh, how do I know this you ask? I taught 5th grade and my students and I tried it! We mailed a tennis shoe to the principal, and an empty soda bottle refilled with beach sand and shells to the class across the hall.

A "naked envelope". Love it! LOL hahaha ... I am guilty of sending all my envelopes out naked it seems. Wont do it again! :)

I have stamped on the envelope, both front and back. It goes with no problem.

I love envelope art! I think if you make a beautiful card, how could you put it in plain white envelope? I have old stamps that were designed for envelope use!

As long as they can read the address and zip code!

I like decorating the envelope...just adds so much to it. I usually just stamp a few flourishes or a small image down in the left corner.

Of course, I don't send out a lot of cards.

I always stamp my envelopes to match the card. I figure the extra eye-candy might be appreciated by the postal workers!

I also tell my customers that you can't mail a naked envelope! They all laugh and stamp their envelopes!

I agree that it adds to the whole card when the envelope is stamped too.

I always stamp on envelopes, too. Sending out a naked envelope just feels so wrong. LOL

Glad you're all enjoying the envelope art site. We also have stampers who decorate their envys to match their cards. I like to stamp my envelopes, too, but I don't have to time to do them and a card to post in my gallery so I'll do it when I'm ready to send it out. If I don't have time to do a little stamping on the envelope, I'll put a pretty sticker on the face of the envy. I always put a decorative sticker on the envelope flap for security and design. I just can't send out a nekkid envy:) I want the recipient to feel anticipation that there's something special inside just for them.

I did that once for my DH. I made a birthday card for him and totally decorated the envy with stamps and coloring and then mailed it to him. I made sure he picked up the mail when it was delivered and I watched him as he looked at the envelope and studied it. He was sooo intrigued. He couldn't figure out who would send this to him. He was truly surprised and I loved it! The look on his face was priceless! He had seen me do it for other people and never thought he would ever receive one. Now he gets why I do it for other people on their special occasions. It's like the wrapping on a present :)

Try one for fun:) It can be a little or a lot but it stops the recipient from tearing into the envelope for a few extra little seconds while they try to figure it all out and enjoy the anticipation of what's inside.

Thanks everyone! I am such a goober! I tell my students to stamp their envelopes to match....I've told them this for years and never questioned it.

Well, I am about to send out invitations for my class reunion and found that my return labels looked a tad big for the upper right corner.....so I go on-line to see if it is still ok to put them on the back flap or not. While looking this up, I found a "layout" for an envelope that said where you can put things and where you can't.....it scared me since I had already stamped a ram on every envelope!!! I am not sure what that site was talking about.

Don't worry about stamping over the barcode area. If you DO, all that happens is a sticker gets sprayed over that area and then a barcode gets sprayed on that.

I guess really, the only place you CAN'T stamp on is on the actual postage stamp. Then the envelope MIGHT be returned for extra postage or delivered postage due.

And if you don't want your envelope to be delayed, try not to stamp over the destination address. :) Though if you do, it will be hand-sorted and will still get there.
