Default Stamping and Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness month. I'm a big fan of Technique Tuesday stamps and thought you might be interested in seeing this set to promote autism awareness.

Oh what a shame we don't have a supplier in the UK I know lots of people who would have bought these stamps.

I'm not affiliated with this company, but its website indicates that it ships internationally!

Thanks for posting this!!!

Both of my sister's sons are autistic. Her oldest is almost 4 and the little guy is 18 months old. The older one is not *that* severe, most people would realize he is autistic. But her younger one has a lot of the "typical" social problems, breaks my heart!!!

I will definately be purchasing this set.

My youngest grandson (will be 5 in April) has Autism. I just sent this link out in an email to all the people that come to the Scrapbook Classes that I teach at the LSS.
Thanks for providing the link. Can't wait until I can order the set.

Thanks, Joan, for the link. My son has PDD-NOS (atypical autism), and anything that promotes awareness and understanding of this disorder is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the info. I checked and my lss carries their stuff. Will have to get one of these sets even though I am not supposed to be buying craft stuff. It is a good cause. Autism is showing up more and more in our kids and we need to find out why and how best to help them.

They only seem to list US stores...and I have seen these at my LSS (local stamp/scrap store) here in Canada. So, why not email Tech Tues and ask them if they have a current list of UK retailers? (Else, you could do a search for Technique Tuesday on google.co.uk or if you have a LSS nearby, why not ask if they can carry them?)

Great idea by Technique Tuesday. Thanks for sharing the info, Joan.

Oh cool. I haven't seen Gina's ad -- it isn't coming up on my pages yet. But that is awesome. I love Gina. Just did a story about her on my blog and she very kindly sent me a whole lot of stuff as a thank you as well as a beautiful card. She is a very interesting and talented and hard working woman!! So glad to hear she's doing something for autism as well.

Cool Joan! Thanks so much for sharing! I will be checking into making some purchases. My mom's brother, my uncle, is autistic. He's 50 years old and also completely blind. This cause really is very near and dear to my heart.

I work for a non-profit respite organization and we work with so many autistic kids, that this is a set I think I'll definitely be adding to my collection.

Thanks Joan for the link and mentioning that April is Autism awareness month. I am fortunate enough not to have any autism in my life and was unaware of it.

I am reading this thread and tears are streaming down my face at all the lovely ladies who I see on this site every day who have loved ones with autism and/or special needs. What strength you all have!

Oregon (where I live) has the highest rate of autism in children -1 in 94 vs. the national average of 1 in 140. I will be purchasing this stamp set and passing the thread to my few stamping friends.

Hugs,

Hugs,
Wow! I didn't realize that Oregon had such a high rate! The national rate is 1 in every 150. Last year, it was 1 in 166. Here in Vermont, where I live, the rate is 1 in 133. I thought that was a staggering amount, but now that I see Oregon's rate, I'm in shock.

My son, Zach, is autistic and has been one of the biggest blessings in my life.

I read the greatest quote last night

"If you really love someone you should write their name in a circle and not a heart because a heart can be broken but a circle goes on forever"

This quote made me think of my grandson Zackary and how it would be great to get together with others who love an autistic child and do a "Circle Journal" to keep with thier stories. I think this would be wonderful to have on a 'not so good' day to see and read that others are there with you even if they are physically far away.

Between this set and Gina K's we'll be able to do a lot of good AND stamp, stamp, stamp.

Our area is having its first ever Walk for Autism in a few weeks and the community has really rallied around it. I think it helps that one of the head honchos at our local ABC station has a son with autism. We get a lot of press.

I would love to do it.

Although I have been a lurker her for some time, I haven't posted alot to SCS and I'm not sure how to set something up here to get us started.

I have done hundreds of swaps locally and on other boards and groups, but each place is different, kwim?

If someone could direct me to where I would need to set it up, I could work on doing that this week.
