Default Stampin Up and USPS?!

I placed an order on the 5th, and got it today in my regular mail. When did they start shipping via USPS? I may be ordering from them more often if they keep this up!

I've gotten my Stampin Up! orders from both USPS and UPS.

I think it depends on how much you order.

Just recently they made a change, I think it is if the order weighs less than 1lb, they ship it via USPS. HTH!

I have gotten things from SU since 2005 USPS, it all depends on the size of your order...12x12 always comes UPS, smaller orders come USPS...

Unless you live in Alaska, then they send it FedEx for the same price. I am so spoiled here...it is going to kill me to move! LOL

Just curious about the cost? Is it cheaper to send it in the mail & is SU still charging the same shipping to send it through the mail? I know they charge a lot for shipping and I think I'd be upset if it was a lot cheaper to send it in the mail and they still charged the same shipping.

Well, here is my take, and this only from experience in selling on eBay. I never, ever make money on shipping, and I cannot image SU ever does either. Let's face it, if you buy a $22 Sizzix die, shipping is 10% (is it? I never pay attention!), that would be 2.20. They pop it in a padded envelope, that will probably go for NO LESS than 2.00. The have costs associated with the envelopes, shipping labels, etc. Plus, I have had instances where something is backordered and they send the main shipment first, then the missing item later. So then I would imagine they lose money.

I am a consultant for another DSA (completely unrelated to the craft industry) and there is always a discussion about shipping fees/costs. Ours are higher than SU and our company says they lose money all the time on shipping. It is just pricey now. They are always reviewing their contracted carriers to get the best deal.

I've never payed 10% shipping, I believe it was around 6.95, the usual. I order online, through a demo's web site. It came in a Priority Flat Rate envelope, which is around $5 I believe.

In Canada its $9.95 up to $99.50, then its 10%. I tried to order something through one of the demo's website and they were going to charge $11.95 (for a $30 order) so I said no thanks. I tacked it onto someone else's workshop, but the shipping is getting ridiculous. I'm just not buying from anywhere I have to pay shipping anymore. 10 bucks here, 10 bucks there adds up pretty quick and that's money I can spend on more supplies. I just save up until I have an order big enough for free shipping or I put up with what they have at Michaels.

SU's minimum is $6.95 (US) or 10% of your order which ever is more. I know shipping is expensive but that 10% can really add up, and who would want to pay $6.95 for a small order?

I had some of my favourite Pampered Chef stoneware broken accidentally and it will cost over $100 to replace these well used items. So, I signed up to have a book party for Pampered Chef (Canada). On their order forms, it is a straight $4.95 or $5.95 (don't have it right in front of me) for shipping irregardless of order size. Like SU stuff, they have a very large range of weights for items, from a lightweight vegetable peeler to really heavy stuff like pots/pans and glass dishes, and also a large range in prices from really low to really, really high priced items! Surely, if Pampered Chef can afford to offer a straight shipping fee like this, then other home party industries like SU and CTMH could as well.

Interesting... piqued my interest. Logged into Pamperchef.com to check their shipping policy. It is also on a sliding scale. Upto $19.99, it's $6.75; upto $29.99 it's $7.50; upto $39.99, it's $8.50; upto $49.99, it's $9.75; upto $64.99, it's $11; upto $129.99, it's $14.75; over $130, it's 11%. I don't see where it's a straight $4.95 or $5.95.

UPS charges extra $ for home delivery services than to a businesss. It is $5 extra for residential. That being said, I do not know if onlines businesses know if they are shipping to a R or a B - but maybe ASSUME it is allways a R and so the extra fee is included in the shipping charges.

I'll double-check on my order forms when I get home. Maybe this is the rate only when hosting a show or catty party. I went to my consultant's business page and don't see a "shop now" button to check it out that way. I checked out PC Canada and do see a sliding scale if ordering online directly from "corp".
