I can't help but feel that it's missing something. What ink or paper could I add to it? (I'm trying to keep supplies down for the moment, no ribbons on hand)
I am thinking of buying a background stamp - I don't own any of the official bkgd stamps yet. Would Canvas have helped the white? what color? I do own sets with random swirls and stuff, but they never seem to look right to me when I try to use them for backgrounds.
or, is it just fine on it's own? Thoughts? Opinions?
If you do use a background stamp - I would put the sentiment in an oval just like you did the baby so that it doesn't get lost in the background. I like linen over canvas - just because I think it is more subtle.
Or maybe you could just sponge the edges of the white with one of the colors you used - the blue!?!
First... I love this card just as it is! The straight stripes are the perfect contrast for the little oval image.
Second... If you don't have a lot to spend on background stamps (and they are rather expensive) try some of the background techniques. Use a bit of real sponge or one of those shower scrubbie things to dab ink all over. Go to the gallery and type JUNE06VSNO into the search box and you'll see a bunch of cards done with the scrubbies.
I like this card. I like the simple lines of the paper strips and the oval image. You could send this one "as is" and it would be fine. I am partial to ribbon and background stamps, so I would probably add one or the other, or even both. If adding some type of background it should be something very subtle. Linen is my favorite at the moment, but since you don't have that you could try using a sponge, shower scrubbie, plastic wrap, a filled balloon, etc (do a search - we've had great challenges using unusual items). But I would make sure that the color is very light since you are using white cardstock, so as not to overpower the other elements. HTH!
Oh, and by the way, I would be happy getting this card just as it is.
Thanks everyone. the color combo was inspired by the bedding they registered for ('twas a baby shower I attended today) see here - though i learned it's much more vibrant in person than in that photo.
The thin stripes are Creative Memories Dimensions stickers (trying to use it up, and much easier than cutting paper).
I like the edging idea... i think i just have to make more cards to get more confident with techniques and building a card. It takes me way too long to pick colors and a layout. And it's the whole issue where I feel like it's missing something, but everyone else who sees it thinks it's fabulous, so, ... difficult to get opinions from those who don't craft themselves.
Yikes! I like the stripes. My suggestion check out all the various background techniques on this site. I might move the stripes down and try three ovals. Hang with this site and you will grow girl!
The stripes are SO cute on this card!!! You may think I'm nuts, but I think you should add another red stripe at the bottom edge of your stripe area....it would carry the red down to the lower portion of the card - since you did the sentiment in red this would echo the color choice.
Another reason to add the extra red stripe is that it would break up the "two's of everything" that you have going with the stripes...a little asymmetry helps the eye move over the card...
This is a great card and I really like the clean-ness of the design.
I love the way it is you tied the colors very good together.Sometimes I see cards that really look home made because they are over done with deco. Really you have done a very nice job on your card and I am sure who ever gets it will be very happy to have it

I love everything about it. Great use of white space, and the stripes are in a really nice layout. One thing you could do is pop the oval frame off the page with foam tape for a bit of dimension.
I really like the card the way it is. But I personally probably do too much with backgrounds, and I don't have a lot of the "plain" bg type, such as linen, aida, etc. So, as others have mentioned, sponging often works well. I also discovered something I could use as a substitute for a bg stamp. I had an old foam type placemat (shiny on one side, rough on the back). I cut off a piece, and can ink and stamp with it - as long as the ink is not a dark color.
Well, I think you did right well sending it as is! I love it! Sometimes if you can't figure out what it needs, just sponging color along the edge will make all the difference in the world. In this case, I think it would balance out the weight of the card by sort of filling out the bottom a little. Like I said, though, I really adore clean, simple, fresh card designs, and this is certainly all that!
I think that the balance is a little off. If you had just started your stripes just a little farther down on the card (~1/4") and you might have needed to stamp the greeting just a smidgeon higher, then I think it would have been perfect. I love the clean lines of the card and the bright colors against the crisp white card.
