Default Stained Acrylic Block :)

Help I was nice and loaned my CTMH clear letter sets and my blocks to a friend. She used Stazon Black ink and I cannot get it off of my stamps but more concerning is that my blocks are a COMPLETE mess...I have never seen anything like it as they are actually all black except where the stamps were positioned.

I have tried everything from Oxi Clean to Ultra clean and cannot get the blocks clean (or the stamps but I think they are just going to be that way!)

Any ideas besides not loaning my stamps again !?!!?

I used Simple Green and a toothbrush to remove StazOn from some rubber stamps I purchased on ebay, but have no experience trying to clean acrylic stamps. It should be OK to use it on the blocks, though. Also, a baby wipe took some of the staining off the wood.

I just cannot imagine how a person makes that much of a mess with the ink! Sorry this happened to you...

What about nail polish remover? I know it works getting Sharpies off of the clear SU! boxes. So, it's worth a try!

Try a Mr. Clean magic eraser... I use it to get most everything off my blocks (works great for Versamark). I can't guarantee it will get Stazon off, but it works really well for all those mystery stains. ;)

I have to second the Mr Clean Eraser.
WOW! I'm so sorry that she turned your blocks into such a mess!!!
Yeah, your stamps will never recover from the black ink... they are stained for good. The good news is that they will stamp just as beautifully stained black as they did when they were clear.

Good luck, and please let us know what DOES work for you! Inquiring minds would love to know!

I read somewhere where they caution about Stazon and acrylic blocks.
I would try the Mr. Clean.
I hope they are not totally ruined.
Let us know how you did.

I found this, hope it helps.

Blocks can be cleaned in warm soapy water. If you use Goo Gone, be very sparing as
exposure to acidic or solvent type cleaners will "craze" the blocks, making little stars
in them. DO NOT USE STAZ-ON CLEANER WHILE THE UNMOUNTED STAMP IS
ON THE BLOCK.

I'd try ultraclean. It does a great job. I know you are sad about your blocks. I like to take care of my supplies, and don't mind lending them. So far, everyone has returned my stuff in good condition. Eileen

I'd go for the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. When Ultra-Clean doesn't work on my blocks, I use that and it amazingly works every time.

Report back and let us know!!! I'm curious now!!! ;-)

Acrylic blocks should not be cleaned with any products containing amonnia, alcohol or vinegar. The products will craze and/or crack the acrylic. Since the blocks are easily scratched, use soft cloths when scrubbing. And...NEVER lend either your stamps or blocks to that 'friend' again!

Thanks SOOOO much for the help! You are all so wonderful. I should have thought to post on this site BEFORE I tried every product in my house :(

I had given her my entire CTMH carrying case with all of the blocks inside. She used 6 of them and the entire top of the blocks were black with the exception of the spots where the stamps were...seriously the ink on that had to be 1/8 of an inch deep on the top of those blocks!

You will be happy to know that after trying every product in my house (most of which should NEVER have been applied to a "block", the magic eraser has taken ALL of it off. Those things are amazing.

Unfortunately one or more of the products I used has damaged the blocks as I can see foggy "bubbles" developing inside the block. I will wait and see what they look like in the morning but ATLEAST they don't have all that black ink on them. They are completely clean...no black at all which is amazing!

Thanks again...I know it is not my friends fault as she is only a beginning stamper and although I explained the "cleaning process" to her, but by the looks of the blocks, I think she must have just kept adding ink to the block the entire two weeks that she had them!

Nope...not a word about the stamps. She just said how she liked the wooden stamps better as they are "easier" to take care of. I was in such shock that I did not say a word about the blocks.

Did I mention that she used MY Stazon black pad and my reinker. The reinker was brand new and came back with less than a 1/4 of a bottle. After seeing how much was on the blocks, I am surprised she left any in the reinker bottle.

OK...sorry for all the posts but as you can tell, this has been quite the ordeal!

Glad you got them clean! I love the Magic Eraser to get staz-on off too! I've never had a problem with it damaging the blocks. You do need to be very careful what cleaners you use on acrylic blocks, heavy solvent cleaners (household and staz-on) can cause cracks in the blocks.

I just did the same thing to my CTMH stamp set. I used Stazon Black and it wouldn't come off. I tried Simple Green, Ultra Clean. I'm just putting the stamp back in its envelope knowing that I really used that stamp a lot. It wouldn't ruin your stamps. As for the blocks I can't imagine getting them all black, sorry about that. Hopefully the magic eraser works.

Ultra Clean works great for acrylic blocks - they cleaned up as good as new for me. I've used it on my clear stamps too. It's the best cleaner around!

Can we all say T-A-C-K-Y!?!?

I can understand the stamps being stained, as that just happens, but to return the blocks in that condition is just plain rude. Sorry you had this experience. I guess its a good lesson to all of us that use UM stamps to make sure who ever uses them knows how to use and clean them. I think I might type up a "help" guide to store with my blocks just in case.

I have a few Staz-On smudges on a few of my blocks too. I guess I never worried much about it, but I sure would love to get it off!! I guess I'll have to pull out my Magic Erasure....but does it scratch the blok?

Nope, won't scratch the block at all. I've been using them for over a year to clean my blocks and haven't had any problems at all.

Gosh- I get ink all over my blocks, and I just leave it there! My wood ones looked like that, so it's natural my acrylic ones would too.

Hope you are able to clean yours- I'd try ultra clean, then Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (which works on EVERYTHING)

Thanks for the responses and interesting thoughts/comments

It is actually amazing with all the products I used on them that only two of the blocks appear to have the bubbles under the surface but all of the rest are completely clean!

Love the magic eraser AND all of you SCS!!!

Did she bath in the ink? Wow thats alot of ink to use in two weeks. I have went 3 years before I ever reinked my pads, and I have only done my black pad. Maybe she needs to go to a class to learn
