Default Spread the Word! Keywords Need Commas!

Spread the Word!: talk it up, put it in your signature, tell your SCS friends! With all the changes to the gallery, you NEED to separate your Keywords with commas now to get them to work. Let me give you an example to illustrate:

Let’s say you typed these words for Keywords for your card:

Quote:

TLC62 Father’s Day Plaid
Without commas, it’s ALL going to be ONE BIG LINK that only directs people to your one card! This also means that anyone looking for TLC62 will not see your card, since the Keyword for your card is actually “TLC62Father’sDayPlaid.” Follow what I’m saying?

Now, using commas, you can make great Keywords that will help people search for new cards. For example:

Quote:

TLC62, Father’s Day, Plaid
And the good news? Not only will this now work to pull up other TLC62 cards along with yours, but you’ll be able to now find cards for “Father’s Day” (vs. with the way things used to work when every word automatically separated--back then you had “Father’s” and “Day” as two separate Keywords). But I digress…

So, spread the word: Keywords Need Commas! Or else they don't work...

Thanks for your help!

So what is the consensus? Do you like it this way with keywords being separated with commas? Is there another way that you would like it to behave?

Thanks for the info! I have always seperated them with commas anyway. Force of habit I guess. I'll pass it around!

I say that I like being able to look for a "Father's Day" card using commas like this...but I wonder if needing to use a comma will be hard for everyone to remember/adjust to.

Can we maybe have a note near the Keyword section when people upload their cards? A little reminder?

I've always separated them using a semi colon like:
TLC66; LSC 51;Father's Day
Will that work too?
Will I need to go back and fix my previously uploaded gallery additions?

Not sure about semi-colons...Scott? Does that work?

Yes, if you want your previously uploaded cards to work, you'll need to edit them. Personally, I only edited the cards of mine that were important (challenges, techniques or types of cards that people would be looking for). Remember that once you edit an image, it will need to be approved all over again.

KITT--

I only have a few that will need editing too...I wasn't too good at putting multiple search terms in my keywords...I guess I now have a reason to go back and make them better!!

Thanks. I used to do that, but then it stopped working after the switch over last fall. I didn't know the commas were working again.

About editing..... I went back to edit one of mine to add the commas. (or... thought I did!) Is there any way to edit JUST the text without hitting "edit photo" and then having to wait for another approval??? Geez, this card has been in my gallery for weeks, now it's waiting to be "approved" again!! PLUS, my commas are NOT there!!!! (unless they will be there once the photo is approved???)

You don't see the commas, but they are there, working behind the scenes. Just hover over your Keywords and you'll see the difference.

As far as I know, there's no way to edit your description without having to get your photo re-approved.

OH... you are SO right!! From now on, I will use commas! Great info.... thanks for sharing!!
However, I think it's a bummer that you can't change any of your description without getting the photo 're-approved'.

If you edit your photo, does that make all of your comments go away? I don't get that many! I can't afford to lose them!

I just went and put commas in a couple of them. The first two now say "image pending approval". The others were instantly there after editing. Hmmmm. Why would that be? Did those not go through, or did I just get lucky that someone was approving while I was editing?

No, but every time you make a change to an entry in your gallery the image must go through the approval process all over again. Sometimes this happens in only minutes if you're lucky and the team is online at the time.

The team is usually on-line from early in the morning to late at night. It's just a matter of when your cards present themselves on our screen for approval. We pull them up in batches so sometimes there's a few minutes between one card getting approved and another also gettin approved. It also takes longer for us when people don't put their cards into categories. We have to then stop and look up the proper gallery for them so everything is sorted into the right spots.

And no, you won't be losing your comments. The reason your cards go back to be reapproved is because you are also able to change your photos when you edit thier description. It's a default setting. HTH!

I changed a few of mine yesterday when I read your message. Then, when I realized they needed to be reapproved, I felt sorry for the volunteer moderators who would have to do all that extra work. If everyone does this, won't it bog down the system? Is there a magic wand the progammers could come up with to make the changes? The info is great to make a better search function, thanks for letting us know.

Well...there have been a few changes in regards to this now:

That way, everything will work as planned, unless you specifically place commas somewhere.

If there isn't a lot of interest in having a term like "Father's Day" be a keyword, I can just abandon the whole thing, and make every word a keyword no matter what.
Copied from: We've made a few changes.

That's how it stands now. No need to edit your cards, unless you want to make a Keyword with more than one word (Like "Father's Day").

Thanks for your help, everyone!

It means someone is "bumping" it up the list of messages so it will be seen by others. A new comment puts a thread at the top.

Thank you all for bumping, but if you check this post for message #30, you'll see that the information is old and you don't need to use commas anymore. They've switched things back to the way they were.

Interesting. I always put in the commas (hey, I'm a professional copyeditor--I can't not use commas), but I just uploaded a card and the commas had disappeared. Something fishy is goin' on . . .

Again, if you read the comments in this thread, you'll see that this has been addressed.

The commas work behind the scenes to make a word like "Father's Day" operate as one search term. You do not see them when you finish your upload, but they are working nonetheless.

I've helped more people than I can remember with keywords today, so let's give this a bump to the top for the newbies and those oldies that forget!
