spacing unmounted alphas

So I have started unmounting. I love that I can take my letters, spell a word (or part of), and stamp. It seems to come out fine with the big alphas, but with my smaller SUs the spacing seems too far.

I have trimmed them, but should I just trim them even more closely, or stamp them one at a time?

For those of you with clear alphas, it the spacing still an issue with the small stamps?

I don't have clear alphas, but I have unmounted all my SU! alphas. Since I unmounted all the way to bare rubber, it's really easy to trim super close. I trim the rubber right down to the edge of the image, that way I can get them spaced closely if I want to when I stamp a word.
