Soft pastels - please help?

I am in love with the look of the watercolor crayons but at this time funds will not allow for them. However, I just purchased some soft pastels by Reeves. Can I write/draw directly on my stamps with these? Can I use them like watercolor crayons? If not, I'm only out $3.99 (thank goodness).

Please advise,

Tasha

Hiya!

Check out this thread on 2peas. Someone asked this same question and there are some helpful ideas. Watercolour crayons and soft pastels are 2 different things since they're made differently (different 'ingredients'). So yes, you can use them like watercolour crayons in terms of filling in a stamped image. The results will be different though.

I hope you have fun with your new toys!

But it seems like you are asking if you can color directly on the stamp with your chalks, just like coloring the stamp with a wc crayon, and then stamp the image on the paper. For that use, no, your chalks will not work.

BUT, it's not money wasted at all! Chalks give a beautiful, soft look. They also have the added bonus of being the ONLY coloring medium that is perfectly ERASABLE if you goof, lol. Just use a cotton ball, q-tip, or some other applicator, even facial tissue, to apply the color after you've stamped.

Or, try using a large cotton ball to swirl chalk all over the paper first, and then stamp on that. Pretty! Have fun playing! Oh, you will want to seal when you finish. Cheap hairspray will work ok, although when you're proud of what you've done, a good spray fixative would be better!

Thanks so much for the 411 ladies! I really wanted to color directly on the stamp so looks like I'm gonna have to get those darn WWC...not that it's a bad thing just the $$.

Thanks again!
