Yeti Falliday Fest How do you line up or layer cling rubber stamps???

How do you layer or line up cling rubber stamps, as you can't see through them like the clear stamps? Any tips or tricks to help?

I don’t have any cling rubber that is specifically designed for layering but if I want precise placement of anything, I use an acetate sheet to help me get it exactly where I want before stamping on the paper. As long as you’re using a stamp positioner of some sort, you’ll be able to reproduce the position of the stamp exactly.

Default How do you line up or layer cling rubber stamps?

I usually stamp the lightest layer first and use a stamping platform so I can nudge the paper a tiny bit if things are off. Looking for small alignment details in the design also helps more than trying to line up the whole image perfectly.

I agree with Joanne. That is what I do. I use a full size Misti, lining up the images making sure each piece of the layering works on the acetate, stamping on scrap paper first. Then when all layers are perfect, I move my card front around in the Misti. Usually after going to all of that work, I will stamp several. I know I have flowers that stamp like this in red rubber, but can't remember any other kinds.

Yes Lisa, the ones I'm talking about are flowers. I do have the Misti and the corners, so that should help. Great advice about using acetate and stamping on scrap paper first! I have some that are on blocks too; sounds like I could do those the same way.
Thank you all!!!

I put them on an acrylic block and use my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig.

Stamp a ma jig (aka thing a ma jig) -this is an old tool before the age of MISTI et al in the age of wood stamps. But this is also good for on acrylic block.

Here is Catherine Pooler showing how to use one.

But as Joanne said, it is really just having a clear something to stamp on you can place over the card and then something you brace against and replace with the stamp, esp wood.

You can make a stamp-a-ma-jig ro use in your Misti for a wood mount stamp. Dini made a tutorial. I will keep searching and hopefully will find it.

Found it: Wood Mounts In The MISTI Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this tutorial - I am thrilled and will definitely be using it. I recently got out an old SU that was wood mount but wondered how I would restamp.

Is the stamp-a-ma-jig still available somewhere???? I used to have one, then got rid of it and now I wish I hadn't. I bought a stamp positioner on Amazon (I think) but it's not deep enough to use with wooden blocks!

Thanks!

There is a Wendy Vecci stamp tool that works like the stamp-a-ma-jig. It is made to go onto the Make Art Station which is a metal plate that magnets stick to it. This tool has magnets on the bittom. I think it wiuld work anywhere thst has a 90 degree square to keep it level. I can find the link tomorrow.

Stampin Up have just come out with a new Stamp Positioner so the stampamajig is no longer available. You might be able to find a second hand one on EBay. EK Success also made something that looks exactly like the SU one and I have seen them second-hand on EBay too.

If you have Lego bricks lying around you can easily make your own (and you can make it as deep or as shallow as you want, as long as it’s at least two bricks high). Just lay out a few bricks to make a corner then press another layer on top to anchor them (so you need to do the opposite in the corner of what you did for your first layer, if you see what I mean, same as you would for any Lego building).

You can find a lot of them on eBay for as little as $10. I didn't check all of them, but it's worth a look.

Here is one that is mDe for the Make Art Station, but should work with any metal layer. It has magnets on the L shape. https://rangerink.com/products/wendy...BoCEpMQAvD_BwE

I bought the Wendy Vecci one and it's not deep enough for the wooden stamps. Maybe I need the Make Art Station for it to work right... I'll have to check that out. Thank you.

I think it might be too low for wooden stamps. I would know how you like it for clear stamps on an acrylic block, though. The Duplo or Lego blocks would be a cheaper way to go, especially if you can find them inexpensively. I think Dollar Stores carried knock off brands for years.

I bought that, and an inexpensive metal plate with grid marks on it (some sort of sewing tool.) It was very magnetic, but I wanted something for wood mounted stamps and I didn't find it worked all that well for positioning. However, I am also struggling with the Lego corner I made, so maybe it's a user/coordination problem, not the tool. LOL
