Smaller Card Sizes
 

What are your favorite card sizes that are smaller than the standard A2 (4.25 x 5.5). I mostly make A2 and A7 sized cards, but have never made anything smaller. I would like to make smaller cards which will be used mostly for quick all occasion thank you notes for gifts and such. Thanks!

I made a bunch of 2 x 2 square cards for Christmas Tags!

Both 4"x4" and 3.5" x 5" cards are fun to make and can be mailed.

What's the smallest size that can go through the mail?

Thank you for the information. I did forget to mention that these cards will be mailed, so I would also like to know about the smallest mail size and whether or not the card size has a corresponding envelope size.

I copied this from the USPS site for sizes of First Class that can be mailed:

Rectangular; length is the dimension parallel to the address.
- At least 3-1/2 inches high by 5 inches long by 0.007 inch thick
- No more than 6-1/8 inches high by 11-1/2 inches long by 1/4 inch thick
- Up to 3.5 ounces
- Surcharge will apply for nonmachinable letter

GREAT information!

I like to make 4-bar size cards (4 7/8 by 3 1/2) a lot. Sometimes the same card layout on an A2 card gets lost but looks perfect on a smaller 4-bar card.

I love making 4" square cards!! You can use a regular A2 envelope and then put a shim in there to take up space so the rest of the envelope doesn't seem empty. That's what I do and haven't had a problem.

I use a piece of crimped cardstock as my shim and it works wonderfully.

I love making 3x3 cards for quick little thank-yous or to attach to gifts!

If I ever make a card that's the wrong dimension to mail, I just use an envelope that's mailable but not necessarily exactly the right side for the card. I often use envelopes as my size guide too - I had a whole box of 3 5/8 x 6 1/2 that I used up making some lovely little 3 1/4 x 5 3/4 cards. Totally a bizarre size, but I had the envelopes and I wanted to use them!

I can find 5X5 envelopes at paper stores. I enjoy making 5X5.

You can really make any card size you want! Scraplings are what they call cards made from cardstock scraps you had laying around. I've made them in all shapes and sizes. They're fun and you can tuck them into bags and tie them on boxes.

They're not really mail-worthy though, unless they're closer to a standard size.

I usually make A6 which is slightly taller and narrower than A2. Measures 4.2"x5.94"
