Small background stamps

How do you use a background stamp that doesn't cover a whole card front? I have a giraffe print stamp from Michael's that's about 2x2". Any ideas for lining up the stamp so I don't end up with sharp lines between the areas I've stamped? I tried overlapping it slightly, and that looked even worse than leaving a gap between "repeats" of the background.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I do a couple different things. The first is, I have a tool called a Stamp-a-ma-jig. If you haven't heard of it, its a simple system where you can line up stamps exactly where you want them. It's not expensive, SU sells it for $11.95, you can also find it at places like JoAnns and Michaels.

The other thing I've done is to randomly stamp the background stamp around the outer part of the card and then put a large mat in the middle of the card so not too much of the background stamp shows.

Hope this helps!

I use the stamp-a-ma-jig. It works great.

Another thing to try if you don't have a stamp-a-ma-jig is to stamp at a diagonal instead of straight across the paper. It makes the lines/spaces between the images less noticable.

Janz - I love the picture in your avatar! Those look just like my hands!!! Oh my! There's no hiding when you've been stamping!

As for the question, I use a ruler if it's something I really want to keep lined up. You can stamp either one row at a time or one column at a time. It's amazing how much you appreciate wheel stamps when you try to do a background with a small stamp!

Good luck!
