Should I have used Craft Pads or StazOn?
 

I was making baby tshirts and although I know about using Craft Pads to stamp on the shirts, I was temporarily out to lunch and stamped them all using Staz-On. After the 3rd shirt was done, I was proudly admiring my lovely work and paused for a moment to glance at my work space. Go figure...I had a stupendous realization...I was using Staz-On on not Craft Pads.

So, my question...will this work? I haven't washed them yet, I just had this glorious epiphany. Do I throw them in the wash and watch the colors run and fade....or do you think they'll be fine? Thanks for any input.

Think Sharpie ink when you want to know how StazOn behaves in the wash. I doubt the colors will run, and they probably won't fade much, either. If you use craft ink in the future, just be sure to heat set it very well before laundering.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it should be alright then.. Cool. No biggie, it's just for my niece and nephew.

On the heat setting, how long is "set real well?" I ironed, with a sheet of paper between tshirt and iron, maybe a minute. Long enough?

You don't have to heat set it at all on cloth. I've gotten hundreds of drivers autographs on t-shirts and year and years and a few bleachings later, they are still on there. StazOn is the same as Sharpie, it won't go anywhere.

I think the heat-setting comment was directed at craft pad usage.

I set with an iron...30 sec - 1 min per "spot" (moving the iron the whole time so it doesn't scorch). Then I throw it in the dryer for a bit longer. I might be doing more than I need to, but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.

Oh, I was only talking about StazOn. Only half reading again I guess. :D

Well gosh, if Stazon is so good at fabric stamping why am I breaking my neck with the Craft Pads, other than the larger color selection?

I have to say, I stamped black with Stazon and Craft and I think the Stazon was darker and richer. I was not happy with how washed out the black lettering appeared on the material. It's not all bad, it just appears deeper with the Stazon.
