I cannot seem to get the jet black stazon off my stamps - especially the detailed ones like Garden College, Christmas Cardinal, etc. I have Stazon remover - doesn't do much, I spray with alcohol, same thing, I use Stampin' Mist, ditto. IF I use all three and scrub with a toothbrush I can almost get it off. AND, today I used my brayer (rubber)to apply Stazon to a large area stamp. Now I have a BLACK rubber brayer.
Can anyone help??? Other ideas???

There is StazOn Cleaner, SU! doesn't carry it, but some Michael's do, and every stamp store I've been into does. It's around $3 a bottle the size of our small mist.
I find that there really is nothing that will take it off once it is on there...a way to keep it from staining is to scrub VIGIORIOUSLY right away and it will usually come off!
I know it's been mentioned to use Yoyo Yellow inkpad. Don't know how or why it works, but then that ink pad should be dedicated to getting black ink off stamps.

Read on here several times about a cleaner called "Awesome" that you can get at the dollar stores(among others)...I got a stamp set off EBay recently that is hard to find, and it was yukky with a turquoise pigment or something. I bought the Awesome, scrubbed the stamp and blocks with a toothbrush, rinsed, dried, cleaned with the SU cleaner, dried and I must admit...they look MUCH MUCH better! Don't know if it will work with StazOn but I will definitely try it sometime.

You're not the only one with a BLACK rubber brayer! I did that last night. What was I thinking?!? I guess I'll have to buy another one now. Total DUH mistake. I even soaked it in Stampin' Mist and Goo Gone to try to get it to go away, but nothing. Bummer.
I do clean my stamps after using Staz-On, with Staz-On cleaner. I wouldn't want that solvent ink to compromise the quality of the rubber. But as for getting the rubber back to the original color - I have officially given up. If I use Staz-On, I accept that the stamps will be permanently stained.
Clean but stained.
Experimenting with chemicals to lift the color is dicey business with rubber, and scrubbing with a Mr. Clean Magic pad is using a very fine abrasive. You could abrade your rubber. (Some stampers deliberately use a mild sanding block to new stamps to give them more "grab", but that is a one time thing only.)
Ranger Ink CLEANER. I get it from my local Stamping/Scrapbooking store. WOW, does it work. One little squeeze and it is GONE. I use stazon ALL the time!! Oh, and I got a set that was REALLY BADLY stained and I thought, hey, i will use this stuff, see if it works on stuff that is dried on, and Wa-Lah! It worked! They look NEW! So, Getcha some!! If your store doesn't carry it, get on google and type it in, you should be able to track it down. It was 3.25 for a couple ounces, but it goes a LONG way!!

Thanks a TON for this heads-up! I've actually steered completely clear of Stazon for the staining reason. I'm one of those anal keep-my-stamps-as-clean-as-the-day-I-got-them gals, so I usually don't even use Basic Black, either.
I would second the warning not to put too much strange stuff on your rubber. I've been stamping for 10 years and I definitely have some older stamps that have become very stiff and almost cracked. Better stained, clean, well conditioned, and usuable stamps than really clean ones that crack after 5 years because you have robbed the rubber of its moisture.

There is a difference in alchohol. I use the 98% alchohol on my stampin scrub pad. The solvent plus the srubbing really works, this always takes off the stazon staining, even if old...BUT... I immediately clean it again with the SU cleaner to condition it! I dont want my stamps to dry out but I do like them clean!!!
Timing is important too. If you clean it right away you get better results (not that I always do, I have a bad habit of not cleaning as I go! sigh! )
Oh yea, I also bought the stazon cleaner with a Michael's coupon and find no diff btwn it and the 98% alchohol.
I just saw this thread...I've been using baby wipes to clean my stamps after using Stazon on them. It works pretty well. I will say that they don't get to the brand new color when you first mounted them, (do they ever?) but they clean up pretty well. I've heard to use the baby wipes without the alcohol, so that's what I have. I also like the fact that I can use the wipe to get into some of the little crevices and clean them.
I used nail polish remover to get the Stazon off of mine after a STamper's 10 where they apparently didn't clean any of my stamps!!! It worked really well--they ended up being the same color as when I first mounted them. I was really careful with it, actually used q-tips to apply it. You don't want it on the foam part--I was afraid it might weaken the adhesive.
After I was done cleaning them, I immediately sprayed them with stampin' mist and let them sit in it for a few minutes (to condition them), then cleaned them on the scrub.
I've had really good luck using mineral spirits which you can get at any of the hardware stores; perhaps if you put some on a toothbrush and scrub into the tiny crevices, it would come out. Good luck.
Hi, I've been happy with the Michaels Stayzon cleaner, but I'm not super picky.
I used on clear buttons and could wipe right off the button while still wet. Faster the better! My girlfriend seals all her wood with shellac before use to avoid stains.
For me...I stamp off on my scrap paper until there is no longer an image and then wipe with a non-alcohol baby wipe...if you do it quickly it comes off as if it wasn't there...if you wait too long it will remain, but should not come off on other images...at least in my experience...I have also, if I've gotten distracted:rolleyes: and waited too long, reinked the stamp with the stazon ink, done what I mentioned above and that seems to remove it as well...good luck...hope this helps, Cathy

Here in the Netherlands we are all addicted to StazOn cleaner. It works really well, but please don't wait to clean your rubber stamps. A cheap electrical toothbrush in combination with the StazOn cleaner works even better. Don't use StazOn ink or cleaner on your clear stamps. It will "eat" it. But maybe you know this already

I use Judkins Rubber Stamp Fabric and Permanet Ink Cleaner. For ink that is very Hard to clean off Stamps
You can find this in most Craft Stores.
Stazon REALLY stays on....Help!
