Sewing on Cards?

Do you need a special sewing machine to sew on cards or do you use a regluar one? I would like to try this but don't know where to start. Anything special you need to do?

They do sell the very small craft sewing machines for cards, scrapbooks, etc. at AC Moore and JoAnn's. Usually less than $10. I got one on sale at AC Moore in October for $4.99. However, I have not used it yet...so not much help from me I guess!?!? I have seen a lot of projects on this site and SU catty & calendar that have use the sewing machine though.

You can use your regular sewing machine. I have both, the small one and a regular one and prefer my regular one.

I purchased one of the crafty machines and I hated it! I use my regular machine and just put the stich a little bigger and I go a little slower. It works great! Plus I have all the capabilities of the big machine where the small ones mostly have just a straight stitch and some don't even have a reverse.

I use my regular machine.

However, I have noticed I go through needles very quickly. The cardstock dulls the needles quite rapidly.

I keep my needle for sewing fabric seperate from the one I am currenly using for cardstock. The cardstock dulls it that quickly.

Also, somewhere on another thread there is a ridiculous pic of me wearing goggles. Someone dared me. :oops:

I had lasik done last Feb; went from 20/400 vision (not being able to see past my hand) to 20/20, and I wear goggles WHENEVER I use my sewing machine. Sounds silly I know but I feel safer.

My DS bought me one of the small craft ones for Christmas. I love the fact that it is easily portable (batteries), but like has been said it only has a straight stitch and I find the tread hard to change. If you want a zig zag or other stich stick with your regular machine.

I have used the provo crafty machine at Michaels. The only thing I didnt like about it is that it doesnt have a bobbin just a top bobbin and when you pull your paper out the stitch isnt complete unless you tie it together so if you pull it out to fast it will come undone and you will have to sew it together. I guess if you learn that it would be a nice thing and easy to use and store.
