I tend toward the gems or rhinestones (not so much the pearls) but glitter if there's enough to really catch your attention. But I usually think of gems or rhinestones first.
I (loosely define) embellishments as anything adding dimension to a card or scrapbook page. This includes glitter/Stickles. It can also include layered punched shapes or layered dies (using my definition but is not applicable to all so if swapping check with your hostess). I think the key to my including these as embellishments is that they are layered, thus giving dimension.
I think bling is any embellishment that sparkles or glitters. So, pearls are an embellishment but not bling (imo, of course).
My friend said she thinks of bling as jewlery, so anything you wear as jewlery gems, rhinestones, pearls, even if you wore a strand of wooden beads is BLING. What about metal charms, people wear them too??? Just a thought!

Your friend is right. The term Bling has made it's way from the music scene into the crafting world. If you think of the rappers & musicians who coined the term, you wont catch them wearing glitter, pearls, or beads. It's all about gold and diamonds. On cards, it should only be used for sparkly 3D objects like your gems or rhinestones or bright, shiny metal accents (like brads).
Pearls, gems, glitter brads, but I wouldn't count Stickles or small glitter accents. Glitter as a bigger feature, like a strip of tape or punched shape, yes. Sparkle and shine, really, but I'd include pearls because of the jewellery connotations.

I also include pearls, because all pearls are considered gems but not all gems are pearls. ;)
