Default Paint Can Questions

I have been looking at the awesome paint cans in the gallery. I have a few questions.

Where to you get them and approx. how much are they?

Do you paint them first? And if so what type of paint?

DO you stamp right on the can? What kind of ink? or

Do you stamp on paper the adhere it to the can? What kind of adhesive?

I really want to make these for all the children's Christmas gifts this year then fill them with crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc...

I appreciate any help and tips you may have fo me. Thanks in advance.

You can get the cans in 2 different sizes at the Home Depot for just a few dollars. I stamp on paper and adhere it to the can using E6000 (which holds everything) but I am going to try it using the Sticky Tape from SU ~ which will probably work too. I usually add ribbon too. People love getting these and always think its so clever! Try it and I'll bet you'll become hooked. Plus, it's a great way to store all those goodies once it is opened. There is also metal pails available that you can decorate and fill with goodies in a celephane (sp?) bag or wrapped up, then the kids can use them to store markers, crayons, or other small objects. My kids have art supplies in theirs and it makes clean up easy.

Default can

i made a few of these for the baby milestone can... i got them at HD for a few dollars and also got the opener to attach with ribbon to the handle. they also have quart size and buckets if you want smaller than the gallon can.

1--have paper trimmed to can height ---i stamped paper (or used designer paper) on the can actually because i wanted the images in certain places. it's not too hard if you are steady and slightly roll the stamp to make the image solid

2--adhered with scotch double sided perm. tape

3--lined up with handle and used circle punch to create hole for handle (cut slit to slide over handle

4--start the 2nd piece of paper over that slit and do the same for the other handle hole

5--For the top, i used the Fiskar circle cutter (complimentary color) and then another circle about an inch smaller to stamp words/images on. I left a space in the center for them to note birthdate, weight, height and of course, Name

6--i also used ribbon along the top of the paper to cover the gaps that happen when you do a round thing like this.

I'm going to start my gallery with some of these images... here is the poem i found on this site for the baby milestone can...

Baby books are great ideas,
but sometimes you’re too busy.
Living with a little one
can put you in a tizzy.
Milestones pass too fast at times
to find the proper page.
So, jot a note of each event
with date and baby’s age
(like “took three steps on May 1st?
or “Teething—5 December?).
Then drop it in this memory can
to help you remember!

good luck!
