Is this normal? I opened my new embossing buddy today and it was covered in grayish powder. I've had it for a while, but it's been unopened until today. It seems like it is leaking...but maybe that's how it is supposed to be. Any feedback would be helpful--thanks!

I'm wondering the same thing - I just got mine yesterday. I'd been using an off-brand version and it left a powdery residue on the cardstock (esp dark colors) whenever I used it. I was hoping the SU one would be better, but I too was concerned when I saw that it's powdery like the last one. Question is, does it disappear or leave a residue?

Mine too. I think this is normal.

That residue is what takes out the static electricity. All you have to do after you are done embossing is to wipe it off gently. I always just go over mine with a paper towel.
I second what Judy said! It's normal and I think that's how the static is removed - by the powder. It only takes a light "swipe" with it over your cardstock before embossing. Just wipe if off when you're done.
Yep, the powder is what takes the static away. Just wipe your CS off w/ a Swiffer cloth (the kind that goes on the floor thingy), after the EP has cooled. It always takes care of any residue.
Just wanted to confirm, as a few others have, that your Embossing Buddy is indeed supposed to "leak" powder, and it is functioning as it should! ;)
It can help to rub it across your paper (as opposed to pouncing, which can deliver more powder than is really necessary) then blow off the excess powder, ink your stamp, stamp the image, apply EP, heat, then, when cool, then wipe off any remaining residue with a soft cloth, or a soft brush.

Okay, if Julie says it's normal, it's normal. Now any tips on how to not get the heebie jeebies when touching all that powder...(shudder)...don't like the feeling of that :-).

Hee, hee, hee, I don't like that feeling either. I usually hold mine with a paper towel. Thought I was the only one that didn't like the feel!
I use a swifer cloth to wipe my card off afterwards - it seems to do the trick - I don't like to emboss without the "buddy" b/c you get specks of EP all over your card otherwise. So don't give up on it, ladies!
