Scraps Question
Ok heres one for you all? Do you keep all your scraps? some of them... or do you just toss whats left over? I am trying to organize scraps and its almost an impossible job. Just curious as to what you all think.

I keep most of my scraps unless they are too small to even stamp a short sentiment on. I have my color families divided into binders with the clear pockets. Each color gets it's own pocket. I can see what I have and I go to the scraps first before I pull out a full sheet of any color. A friend teased me about some of the small scraps I was saving but most of the time I can use them up.

scraps
I too save all my scraps..i put the small ones in a tin on my desk top so when I need a small mat I have it handy. When my kids want to scrap or stamp with me, then that is the drawer they can use, it makes them feel special that they can use big girl paper like mom.

I keep all mine in file folders, separated by type. I have a folder for long ones, a folder for small ones, and a folder for larger square/rectangle ones. Its easier to find a scrap for whatever purpose I need that way! (matting, stripes, tags, etc)

I have a 7 x 12 accordion folder that I keep my scraps in. I have 2 sections for each color family. 1/2 and 1/4 sheets go in one section and pieces smaller than 1/4 sheets go in the other. I keep this right on my desk and I look in there first before I cut into a new piece of CS.

I LOVE SCRAPS!!! This is exactly what I do. I have a binder with color families in each section. My friends make fun of me but appreciate that I have taught them to not waste ANY paper. It is better than cutting a 12x12 peice of paper when you only need a little part of it!!

Yup. I keep 'em sorted by hue, all the reds, pinks, yellows, purples etc sorted in a cigar box. Go to the box for scraps before cutting new paper. Sometimes I'll even look in the box, see what's there, and try to use it for trim.
It does make the card stock go a lot further! :-D

I too keep almost all my scraps (2 inches is my limit...ie.if it is shorter or narrower than about 2" I toss it). I have a filing box with hanging file folders. One color per file folder. I use almost exclusively SU cardstock so I have them arranged by color families. I barely use my full sheets anymore!

I'm brand new to this site. One of the mysteries I'm trying to resolve - what do you do with magnetic paper? I saw it at the craft store in the scrapbooking area but no one at the store seemed to know what it was for. It's about the weight of card stock. Thanks. I love looking at everyone's creations.

This is just a guess, but could the magnetic paper be used with die cutting machines for refridgerator magnets or lunch tin decorations?

Ok, I'll be different. No, I don't keep all my scraps. Because I'm a demo and do a lot of Make N Takes I tend to create a lot of scrap. More than I could ever use up. I have a bin next to my desk that I throw scraps into. Every few months I sort it out and put it into bags by color and color family. Anything that is smaller than 1/4 sheet gets tossed.
For a while I kept it all and imagined doing all sorts of projects with it but I gave up. It wasn't worth it to me to use all that space storing it.

I keep most of my scraps also, sorted into gallon ziploc bags by hues. Scraps are the reason I joined SCS because I saw a write-up that the Dirty Dozen had a scrap gallery. I need to figure out a way to use up the little pieces or maybe I should just toss them. I have decided that 1-3/8" was going to be my smallest scrap (to match the square punch I really want to get).

scraps
Don't be too hasty in throwing away those little scraps. If any of you have already bought or plan to buy a cuttlebug, it is perfect for some of those small scraps. I just used some while cutting out some of the alphabets.

I can't even tell you how much it pained me to think of all those lovely scraps being tossed out. Do you have a downline, upline, sideline or customers who might have use for these? I pick up my up-up-upline's scraps as often as she lets me. My favorite thing is sitting down in front of the TV and sorting scraps (I know, I need to get a life).
In any case, all scraps are stored along with the full size CS in file folders. I have a plastic hanging file folder box for each color family + 1 for basic black, whisper white and very vanilla and another for all the other neutrals/metallics/etc. That way I always look for scraps first when I need to make a card.

I am quite frugal about everything, so can't imagine throwing away pretty pieces of paper.
So far I am not organized at all - just have them all in zip lock bags and stacked. When I make something, I drag it all out and look through it. It's kind of fun, though. I never know what I will find.:-D

I sort my non SU paper scraps by hue and mulitcolored. I keep my SU scraps in a page protector in the file folder for my 81/2x11 sorted by color.

I just sorted all my scraps this weekend. I just separated by hue and put them in gallon ziplocks like Stampin Hampton mentioned. Since I did that, I have actually been using them. I was too lazy to sort through it all before. My patterned paper I have separated by theme. I don't use that as much though.

I keep most of my scrapes in a plasic basket on my work table. When ever I need a smaller piece for words or such I go to my scrape basket first before I pull out a new sheet. But if I organized them into zip bags I would probable never pull them out. They are also fantastic when my grandkids are playing with me. I give them sheets of their "special" paper and a handful of scrapes and glue, and pin up their art work on my craft room walls!

I bought 3 drawer set from Walmart and use them to store my scraps. I divided them by colors (the primary color on the paper) and then have my browns, black, and white in one. If they can be used again, I keep them, but if they are very little, I just toss them out.
Before I got the drawers, divided up my scraps into freezer bags until I had the money for the drawers.

I save scraps that I will be able to use for stamping on backgrounds in future projects. they are keep in a binder and organized in page protectors by colour. Scraps that are too small to use are tossed in a container and I save them for making my handmade paper. ti works for me and I don't feel like I am wasting any of the paper I bought!

I save my scraps - I have a file folder in front of each SU color in my paper organizer (purchased at Office Max) and the scraps for each color go into the folder infront of the paper. The folder has a tab on it labeling the color for easy find. All my papers are grouped by SU families. My father was a frugal Scotsman and would roll over in his grave if I threw out ANYTHING! LOL

A year or so ago I bought a rolling file cart and hanging files. I have a separate file folder for each of the SU colors and specilaity papers, plus one for all of the designer papers. Whenever I need small peices I pull this out, especially when I need small pieces for make & take projects.
As in the past, about every 2 years I'll gather up all of my scraps and sell themon ebay as a "paper salad" I've done pretty well on these and it helps me clean house.

I keep an open box on my work table and drop my scraps in it. When I make a card for someone I always go to the box first and see what I can do with the scraps. My box stays pretty close to empty!
Some day I might organize them all---but probably not. I hate to throw any of the pieces away. Sometimes just a tiny piece will be just what I need and I hate to cut a big piece.

I keep my scraps - most all of them. Though I don't have that many. I keep using them up.
I tend to cut my paper into regular sizes to start with, which I think eliminates scraps that can't be used.
For my leftover pieces, I have two clear plastic shoeboxes. As someone else already said, I look there first whenever I need something. I like the shoebox size because it will hold 1/2 sheets of paper easily, and it's easy to look through the box.
On my desk, I have a votive that I'm collecting 1/8" punches for a future shaker card class. I think the little colored dots will make a great accent to a card. (And besides, I'm punching anyway. I might as well make it useful.)

I keep most of my scraps larger then 1 inch by 1 inch. I keep a plastic page protector in each file that I have (each color has it's own file folder in my filing cabinet, sorted by alphabetical order), then when I need a piece of that color paper I pull out the plastic sleeve, see if I have the size needed and use it up first. Works great for me. In my filing cabinet the top drawer has SU papers from A-L, the 2nd drawer down has L-Y, the 3rd drawer has all the neutral colors and the specialty papers (shimmers, vellum, mulberry, etc), and the 4th drawer has all of my generic papers, those are sorted by color type into seperate folders. I love having all of these in my filing cabinet, and love being able to pull out the plastic sleeve and have the paper stay inside of them while I pull it out, I have used so much more of my paper this way.
As for the person that throws away scraps, I would never be using SU paper if it hadn't been for my mom's friend (also a demo) that never used anything but full sheets, she sent my mom with a BOX, literally of paper, from 1/2 sheets to 1/4 sheets, to all different sized mats, that she would never use, before that I was using generic paper, but that certainly hooked me! I loved having her scraps and certainly used them up, maybe you could save them and find someone that would use them, or even give them away as a hostess gift at a party, I know I sure would have loved to have gotten someone elses scraps, lol!

I save most scraps. Every once in a while, when the bag gets too full, I will send it to the Girl Scouts. They make cards for the local nursing homes, and they find it very useful. Just a thought.

I save mine in gallon-sized ziploc bags. For those scraps that are pretty much trash, I'll just use my punches to get every last bit I can. Punched shapes go into a sandwich ziploc.
Whenever a baggie gets full, I just make cards and other works of art from just the scraps. Then I begin the process again.
