Default I am going to conduct an experiment with Distress Stain

I wasn't sure if I should post under here or Tool/Product Talk.
So, I got some Distress Stain at Tuesday Morning for only $1.49! I am going to see if it works like a reinker on some of my dried out pads-one of them being a Distress Pad. I figured it's worth a shot at that price. If it is a disaster, I'll toss the pad and just start with a new one. Plus, then I can use the stain for its intended purpose. Has anyone else tried this?
By the way, I got so many cool goodies there. A rotating metal thing that holds the blending tools, an envelope punch board, a Ranger small and colorful mini tote, lots of double-sided tape and some paper. They always have cool paper!

Thanks for the reminder! I thought it was supposed to start the 25th.

The sun'll come out tomorrow.
Bet your bottom dollar
that tomorrow
there'll be sun.
Just thinkin' about
tomorrow,
clears away the cobwebs,
and the sorrow
'til there's none...

So I tried it using the Distress pad, an old Sugarloaf designs pad, and a couple of Ranger pads from Tues morning I purchased months ago. It stamped a little splotchy, so I'm going to try again with different stamps and also add more stain. I think I will also put some on craft mat and ink up the stamp that way. I was really hoping someone here had already tried this before.

If it stamped a little splotchy, are you using a photopolymer stamp, as they tend to do that anyway with Distress inks?
I've just been Googling, and in THIS VIDEO, Tim explains the differences between Inks & Stains. At 9.40 in the video, he uses the stain directly onto a stamp to stamp with, so you maybe don't need to use it to reink pads?
I also found this :

"There are also a few things you need to know that Distress Stains are not:

A stain is not the same thing as a re-inker. Stain is a fluid version of a color, where a re-inker is a concentrated version of the exact formula in an ink pad.
You should not attempt to re-ink a distress ink pad with a distress stain. It contains different resins and will not work."
So,it looks like it won't do what you want.

Sugarloaf inks were permanent, so if there is any left on the pad there could be a reaction between the two inks happening too.

I think the nature of a reinker and the stains are totally different so don't think it will work. Having used both to watercolour, paint etc. the stain is not as concentrated as the reinkers. I guess if you don't care about the pad try it.

Just a thought....check out the Monday TLC challenge I posted this week here...you may have some fun trying out your stains for that!

Thanks for all the info everyone! I knew there was a experience here. I appreciate the links, too. I'll check them out. Speaking of the sugarloaf inks, I sure do like how they are packaged. Just the right size and the carrying case is great. I don't think they make them anymore-- I'll have to check it out.
