Ribbon Storage!

I have 10 spools of CTMH ribbon which come on BIG rolls, some with large center holes, so they don't "dowel" well. They also get dusty sitting on a dowel. Well, I was at WMart today and saw these Sterlite 2 qt round pitchers for $1.50 and thought, HMMMMM.... So, I got one, brought it home and BINGO! PERFECT SIZE! Got out the handy dandy drill and drilled holes up the side and VOILA! Dust free ribbon dispenser for jumbo rolls!

Ingenious! Thanks for sharing. I love SCS for great ideas like this.

When you pull out one ribbon, does that make the other spools unwind, too?

thanks,

~ Kathy

I think I need to take one spool out... the lid has a recessed area that pushes against the top roll and makes them tight. I think without the last roll they would spin better. You can also rest it on its side when you pull out the ribbon. That seems to help the other reels not spin. It isn't perfect, but for $1.50 it was a pretty good fix!

Very clever idea! I like that the ribbon doesn't get dusty! I'm gonna have to try this!!

Too clever. Gotta get to Wally World today for this gem. Then to find the drill--hope it can be found among the packed moving boxes. (Stamps & supplies are getting moved in my car--can't trust DH to pack them on the moving van!)

And the handle keeps the pitcher from rolling around! What a very cool, inovative idea! Do I need to buy big-spooled ribbon now? :D

lovespekes 03-23-2006 06:01 AM

Now aren't you the clever one! What a brilliant idea. And I love the fact that using the pitchers would make it easy to carry if going to a crop.

thesachsgirl 03-23-2006 06:37 AM

That's awesome!!! I'd never think of that!

jolea's mom 03-24-2006 09:44 AM

I just thought it might help to let you all know that I picked up one of these today at Walmart ($2.27 Canadian) and they'll fit 17 or 18 spools of SU Grossgrain ribbon. Just gotta get hubby to hand over the drill! :)

sweetpea111403 03-24-2006 10:56 AM

THank you that is awesome... 17 of SU ribbon.. WOW.. that is one container for just about all the ribbon in the catty!! WOO HOO.. I must go to Walmart today!! any ideas for the gingham or organdy?

Novell 03-24-2006 11:51 AM

How creative! How did you drill the holes so nicely? I probably would end up with a million pieces of plastic. :D
