Default prismacolor question?

I have the 120 set of prismacolors and have printed off the chart that a SCS user posted (thank you very much by the way), but for Always Artichoke, the matching color is Kelp Green. My set does not contain Kelp Green - is there another color that would be a close match and is there a place to buy single pencils? TIA for any help.

You can buy single colors at DickBlick.com. They have the 12 new colors for 2006 available now too. I just received 11 of the 12 new ones - the backordered one should be coming this week (coincidentally, it's the one called Artichoke I don't know yet if it matches Always Artichoke).

Number 988 marine green, which is also used for mellow moss, but is a bit too dark for it, is the closest color. Like Julie said, you can buy the colors separately. Check your local art store or craft store.

Just last week, I got the brand, spankin' new colors in a set from someplace in Massachusetts but I can't remember the name. They were pretty cheap too. I think the Moss Green is a pretty good match. Artichoke is a way to yellow.

This place has the new colors in a tin for $9.64. Of course, shipping is kind of high but I got them in 3 days.

I was just going to chim in and say the same thing - I was definitely disappointed in the artichoke. It is much more Okra in color, but have to agree that the new Moss Green is very pretty. I still like a mixture of PC988 Marine Green together with PC1090 Kelp Green as the color to coordinate with Always Artichoke. HTH's.

I'd be very interested in obtaining the chart you mentioned. Does anyone have the link? Thanks! :-) LM

You know, if you have an art store near you, try there for the individual pencils. Michaels and AC Moore have the singles in the fine arts area. But, I'm not sure they have the full collection in singles. I've been in a couple of art stores that have the full Prismacolor display. They usually have the Prismacolor watercolors in singles too and they are just fabulous.
