Default Wheel Tips

I just seen someone (sorry forgot who already)post about getting their first wheel and wanted to share this info that I have saved, it came from the stampin' discuss forum and was created by Colleen Kidder...

- ----------------------------------------
Wonderful World of Wheels
By Colleen Kidder

- ----------------------------------------

Below are some tips and instructions that will help you enjoy using your
new wheel.

PROPER USE:

- ----------------------

To use your new Stampin' Around Wheel:

1. Take ink cartridge and place into handle, with tab sticking out towards
the front. The lid will want to pop off before you get the cartridge in all
the way. Go ahead and slide the lid off, and then push down on ink
cartridge to snap it into place.

2. Now, you can pop in your Stampin' Around Wheel. Push up on the tab
on front side of ink cartridge to release it so that it goes up against the
wheel.

3. Roll out a few times on some scratch paper to ink up the wheel. To
roll wheel you can either pull towards yourself or push away from yourself.
Try both to see which fells most comfortable for you and provides you with the best results.

Tip: If you put your index and middle fingers along the top side of the
handle when you're rolling, it will be easier to keep it flat and get proper
coverage. (Some people find they have better luck if they stand up
while wheeling.)

4. Now start rolling on your project. Be sure you have a larger piece of
scratch paper underneath your project. Always start off the paper a bit
and continuing past the end of your paper. This way you will ensure
complete coverage of your project.

5. When you have finished wheeling, push down on the tab on the front
side of the ink cartridge to push it away from the wheel. Now slide the lid
back into place over the ink cartridge. Get a damp paper towel on a plate
and wheel around on the paper towel until all the ink comes clean off the wheel. Now you can dry the wheel by running it across a dry paper towel or napkin.

CLEANING:
- -----------------
When you have finished wheeling, push down on the tab on the front side
of the ink cartridge to push it away from the wheel. Now slide the lid back into place over the ink cartridge. Now you can clean the wheel by rolling it
on your moistened Stampin' Scrub. If you are using Versamark be sure to spray the Stampin' Scrub or the rubber on the wheel with Stampin' Mist to assist you in removing this heavier, stickier ink. Now dry the wheel by running it across the dry side of the Stampin' Scrub and then a paper towel if it is still damp.

STORAGE:
- -----------------

Wheels: Simply store the wheel away until you're ready to use again
away from heat and light.
1. My all time favorite way to store wheels is to place them on the
pants hangers . . . you know the ones that have rows of bars for hanging
multiple pairs of pants on one hanger. Look for the ones that have hinged bars that swing out and be sure the diameter of the bar will allow you to easily slide your wheel onto it. (If the bar is encased with rubber you may need to cut that off before sliding the wheels on.) Each bar allows for 7 wheels and with 4 bars on each hanger you will be able to fit 28 total wheels on each hanger! Then simply hang this in your stamp room closet. Cool!
2. Pringles cans that have been rinsed and dried. Then trim a standard
sheet of copy paper and roll the wheels that are being stored in the
can on that paper. Then wrap this around the Pringles can. Now whenever you need a wheel it is easily found and the can protects the rubber from being 'smooshed' and misshapen.
3. Another really great way to store wheels is to hang from an "S"
hook (placed in the hole of the wheel) and hang from a peg board.
4. There are storage racks that you can buy to store multiple
wheels on (a rod runs through the middle of the wheel and then the rod is slid into the storage rack.) Some of these also store the ink cartridges. They can be ordered online.

Ink Cartridges: Be sure the lid is securely on the cartridge (snapped down
tightly) and then drop it into a ziploc bag, a Rubbermaid-typecontainer, or
even a plastic Hot Wheels (toy car) storage case. Storing the cartridges
this way will help keep the ink from drying out quite so fast.

Handles: Anywhere 'handy'.

WHEEL TIPS:
- --------------------

** Getting rid of 'image gaps'

If you find that the rubber on your wheel seems to have a slight gap between each revolution which results in a blank spot as you roll it, this is
normal. Usually isn't not very obvious, but with ones that have lines (like the Mittens wheel and the old triple line plaid wheel) it may be more noticeable. This is the seam at which the manufacturer must seal the rubber onto the wheel. it's never going to be seamless because the rubber has to be put on the wheel and a seam is required somewhere. If it is a real nuisance to you there is something you can do about it. To get the design to connect when you roll it one complete turn around you can carefully remove the rubber from the wheel. Then cutout the gap with an exacto knife or the SU! Scissors. Next, re-glue it to the plastic wheel using rubber cement. Place rubber cement on rubber portion and let dry. Then stretch the rubber a bit as you adhere it around the wheel. The rubber does stretch to make up the missing gap that was cut out. Now you
have wheels that have lines that really meet!!

** Rolling on the Sides of Gift Bags.
Fold the gift bag outward. Look at the sides and see how they go in...
just refold so they point outward. You will end up with a tiny triangle at
the bottom that you will not be able to wheel. Either leave it plain or
stamp something that coordinates with the wheel or even a part of a saying or a greeting in that spot. Or create a triangle shape stamp out of left over 'rubber clippings' and then just stamp some coordinating color in that area.

** Faux Milk Carton Gift Boxes and Wheels.

Pe-score and pre-cut a piece of confetti white cardstock for a milk
carton. 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10. Wheel it with Happy Birthday in Lovely Lilac, fold it
up, tie the tip with Purple Organdy ribbon, attach a small piece of confetti
white (stamped with Happy Birthday from Bold Greetings in Lovely Lilac ink) mounted on top of a small piece of Lovely Lilac cardstock attached to the milk carton. This makes a great package for small birthday or baby shower gifts - or my favorite CANDY!

Default unmounting a wheel

Do you have any suggestions for the unmounting of a wheel? I don't know how to go about it. Thanks!
