question on ink colors

I'm fairly new to stamping and right now have five inkpads.. black, blue, red, yellow and green.
I'm thinking of getting a set of the SU! inkspots to get more colors into my collection and to try out their inkpads (mine now are not SU!) Which color set would you recommend I order? and why that one over the others? Thanks for the help!

You really need to look at the sets and choose which one suits your fancy. I personally chose the Bold Brights first. If you want a bright color get good ink coverage. If you need a pastel, stamp off first and image will be lighter--therefore don't need Soft Subtles.

The other two families are more of a color preference.

That is just my vote.

I started out with Rich Regals, because my taste in stamps was flowery and victorian.

I got Earth Elements next because of the nature stamps I love.

Then Bold Brights - great for St. Pat's Day, Valentine's Day, Halloween, Christmas, 4th of July.... and bright cards!

Steffani had a good point about the pastels!!!

Bold Brighgts was my first color family also. I tend to gravitate towards bright bold cards so for me it was the logical choice. In the several years I have been stamping since then I now own all the classic pads.

I chose soft subtles as my first set (that I just purchased last month), because spring is approaching and that will be the theme of the cards I am currently working on. In this month's order I purchased the bold brights. I will then (in the following months) purchase earth elements and rich regals (in that order). I guess I'm ordering them by season!!! Good luck. You'll love them. I do!!!

I chose Earth Elements as my first set. I love the nature colors and do lots of stampin with trees/leaves & flowers.

I think you need to look at your stamp sets (or what you like) and then decide what colors you think will go best with those sets, also which ones you like best. You can kinda tell if you look at a color and think "Oh cool" or "eeewwww".

Stamping colours

Hi, I'm pretty new at this too. I started with the basics that were not SU either. When I finally started into SU I looked at the stamp sets I had then decided what colours would go well with them. I started with a couple from Rich regals and Soft subtles. I don't limit yourself to one type. Then when you get more stamp sets you will have options for colours and get the starter assortment packs of cardstock.

Robin, I suggest you go to your gallery of favorites here and eyeball the colors of the ones you have put in there. Take a few notes of the most common colors that have caught your eye. Then, buy that family first. I love the bold brights the most, then rich regals, then earth elements, and I am still getting the soft subtles! You can stamp off to achieve the softer look, that was a great suggestion! But, many people have really strong preferences and wouldn't be happy getting bold brights first (although I looked at what you already have and it sounds like you would like them!) Since you are especially interested in the spots, it wouldn't work for you to mix the family groups unless you want to buy two different sets of spots! Good luck in your decision, let us know what you decide!

I got Basic Black and Bold Brights first because I do a lot of stuff for kids. When you make 20 of the same thing you really appreciate having ink pads.

I prefer the earth elements (I'll get them next) but usually I'm only making 1 of something so I get by with using my markers.

Also, what kind of stamps do you prefer, the line or bold type. My preference is line stamps so initially, Basic Black and another neutral were all I needed. I have many colors now, mostly Bolds Brights and Earth Elements but I really like to color so Basic Brown and Basic Black are the most used in my collection.

Well, I can't remember what stampin' spots I bought first, but I bought 2 sets at a time. Now I am working on getting the big pads. I got the Rich Regals first since that seems to be my favorite colors and then I just recently earned the bold brights from my last party. Since I am signing up to be a demo and they make you get black, which I do already have I figured why not get some of the earth elements next. I figure as soon as I am official and get my demo kit I plan to get the soft subtles :)

So yeah it depends on your taste, but I think it depends on what cards you're wanting to make since Spring is coming up I would think of spring colors or also depending on what sets you have. :D Hope that helped a little, it all depends on you and your style 8)

I could not decide either, so I bought Rich Regals and Soft Subles first. After many years of stamping I now own all the classic pads and absolutelu love them. The other posters are correct, you need to go with the set that most catches your eye.
