Default Question about Hodgepodge Hardware...

Do any of you ever feel like you are throwing away $$ when you make a card with this kit? I don't want to sound cheap, and the set is really a good value...but geesh, I am looking at making quite a few X-mas cards, and while the hardware looks awesome on the cards, I just can't help feeling like I am throwing my $$ out the window. I guess I feel that way because some people throw out their X-mas cards after the season is over, even if they are hand-made.
Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe I am just looking for someone to agree with me, or slap me up and tell me to quit being so cheap!
Any thoughts?

I completely agree with you. I can not see using the hardware on a card. Scrapbook page Yes, card NO.

I feel the same way. That is why when I finally buy the HodgePodge, I will not use it on that many cards. I want to use the stuff on my scrapbooks. that way I know they are still there in a few years, instead of, like you said, in the garbage.

I know what you mean. However, I decided a LONG time ago to stop worrying about what folks did with my cards. When you add up the ink, paper, ribbon, etc. it is a very pricey habit! I use the hodgepodge embellishments are cards because it makes ME feel good. Go figure!

well...if you end up giving a card to someone like me, it's not a waste. I take all the xmas cards I get for the year and I scrap them. I don't make nice sb pages out of the cards, but I just get them onto pages so that you can see them. I tend to keep cards that are handmade; or photo cards.

Oh thanks...I was starting to question my generosity! I was gonna say that about only using the set in my scrapbooks...but then I thought "Geez Deb, how selfish can you be?" Glad to know I am not the only one who feels this way!

I really wish you hadn't asked that question...now, I have to think about people throwing them away...would be tragedy! I honestly had never thought about it before. I guess only really special people will get the HP!

Part of the reason I won't buy the Hodgepodge kit for cards. I can get MOST of the items at my lss and I'll use those on my sb pages. They are beautiful, but I'd rather buy more stamps

By buying at your LSS you'll pay much more to someone else, instead of yourself; or if you are not a demo, you'll pay more to the store and not to your favorite demo.

The hardware kit is such a value when you add up all the trinkets in it!

My HPH is for extra special cards for people I know will appreciate them, like my mom, my sis, my BF, etc. I wouldn't put it on the 50+ Christmas cards I make every year. I do use eyelets & brads & ribbon (oh my!). If I scrapped, I would use the HPH for that too.

That's exactly my philosophy too.

I bought my hodgepodge kit to use mostly for scrapbooking. But I will use it on cards to people like my SIL who also stamps who I know appreciates handmade cards. My mom also never throws away anything I make her.

I think you can get most of the HPH items separately at LSS. That's why I haven't gotten the kit. I don't think I'll use some of it. I usually make 8 of a card and don't think there is enough to do that (expecially since SU won't put info in the catty about how many of each item). The only item I haven't been able to find is the little 'D' hook or whatever it is called. I've found those on framing sites but they are like 1" or 1 1/4 " long which I think is bigger than the HPH one.........that and some of the items I've found elsewhere aren't antique colors.

All my cards are one of a kind, and I use the hardware on a lot of my cards. I don't really care what happens to them after they're bought or sent out to friends and family. It's the act of creating that I enjoy, and I like having the option of using the hardware.
As others have stated, it really is a good value for the money. If the items were purchased separately, they'd cost quite a bit more. (And this is coming from a notorious tightwad!)
