Which ribbon do YOU use?
I'm considering buying some ribbon. Which kind do you prefer -- Grosgrain or Organdy? Which size Organdy do you use -- 7/8" or 3/8"? What colors do you use most? Please help me ... there are just too many to choose from! Thanks for your help!
I think I definitely lean more toward the grosgrain... I just tend to pull it out more often, I think because it's more bold and matches the colors better. When I do use the organdy, I tend to use the narrow more... I guess I feel like the wide seems to overpower my cards. Of course, I've seen lots of samples with it where it looks great... I guess I'll just have to keep working on it!

After 11 years as a demo, guess I'm not so"new" anymore!
I really like both for different styles. I use the grosgrain for the more casual cards that just need a little something. I use Organdy for the ones that are more elegant. I am totally in love with the gingham lately! I use more of the narrow organdy than the wide.
I'm no help at all Laura! I had to have them all!!
Actually, they're so different -- different cards/styles need organdy while for others the grograin is better. To me the organdy is more formal and the grograin is playful. See, no help at all
I too use and love them all! It depends on the style of the card, and the recipient, also. What worked for me was to participate in a ribbon-share offered by a demonstrator (through SCS, actually). For a relatively low amount of $$, I was able to get samples of each color of every kind of ribbon - the wide and narrow organdy, and the grosgrain. That way, once I determine which style and color I use most often, I can purchase those in full rolls.
I see you're a demonstrator... maybe you could organize and participate in a ribbon-share with some of your customers, or other demonstrators???

I bought a sampler off of ebay of all of the SU! colors (Grosgrain, 7/8 Organdy, 3/8 Organdy, all 3 cords & all 4 of the gingham). At $25 for a yard of each I know was alittle pricey  , but I just couldn't bring myself to spend $6-$8 for each of the colors...cause of course I want them all & I didn't know what I would use most of. I'm glad I did it. In the long run, I think I saved myself some money finding out which colors/size I use the most. I found that I too love the gingham! (Had to buy the pink & black today at a SU! party!) I find that I use the Grosgrain (white, yellow, pink) more then the Organdy. When I do use them, I tend to use the 7/8 more & have used white, red, blue & yellow the most. Guess it depends on what style of cards you use your ribbon on too. (I agree with frankie & jm... I use grosgrain for the more casual cards & the Organdy for the more elegant cards I make.)
Happy stamping!

I confess. I am a ribbon junkie. I have grosgrain. I have organdy. I have gingham. . . and a bunch more! Dotted swiss! Wide grosgrain in stripes! Pretty velvet ribbons! Silk ribbon! Oooh just thinking of pretty ribbon makes me absolutely giddy! They live in a wire rack, and in three wide iris cart drawers. They are labeled Ribbon, More Ribbon, and Ribbon Galore. Yes, I have issues!
My favorite thing to do is to tie organdy & grosgrain (or/and gingham) together. Such a fun look that really finishes a project!
Have you checked out MamaKimberly's post of like a bajillion uses for ribbon? It's awesome and has a ton of gallery links with examples. Forums at Splitcoaststampers
jbalcer - you made me laugh out loud! I'm still laughing
I thought I was the only one with ribbon issues. Glad to know I'm not alone! My non-stamping, non-card making friends just think I'm so strange! Guess they'll have to get the store bought cards.... WITHOUT the pretty ribbon!!!!
Happy stamping!

I think it depends on the card, but I like to use all of them! Like Jenn, I love gingham and polka dots. I hope SU will offer more patterned ribbons in the future, even if it's just in the mini cattys!!

I LOVE ribbons. I collect them. I think which ribbon you get kind of depends on what kind of stamper you are. If you are more of a soft and pretty stamper then get the organdy. If you are more linear and graphic get the grosgrain.
I find that I use more of the grosgrain and the gingham simply because my style is more casual. I love aging the gingham with Creamy Caramel ink too! Great for distressed looking cards! I do love the organdy as well, but I tend to save it for fancier cards and scrapbook pages. Right now I am into "collecting" things as "sets." I did have one wide organdy, one narrow, and one grosgrain, then I got my first gingham and had to have them all! After I got ALL of them, I decided that I wanted to collect accessories in color families, bold brights first. I also not to collect all the different kinds of ribbon at once because I'd be in the poor house! Right now I am looking to spring and casual things, so I'm collecting the BB grosgrain (I have white, black, and taupe already). Next, because it will also be season-appropriate, I'll move on to the Soft Subtles. Perhaps by this time next year, I will have collected all the ribbon, all kinds! Either than or be divorced from trying to collect all this ribbon. I work my full-time job to pay for my SU habit. And I'm even a demo!
