I'm having some bad insomnia lately, and while I can get up in the middle of the night and craft like the best of them, when I wake up after too few hours of sleep, I'm exhausted, fragile and on my last nerve.
So after trying to stamp my greeting in the exact place I wanted it on the front of a nearly completed card (of course that didn't work does it ever for me?) I decided to stamp it on a small banner. Does my trimmer e-v-e-r cut a straight line? You know the answer to that one. Did it take me more than five tries to get one good clean stamping of the greeting? Uh-huh.
I had been on a roll and made at least eight cards in the past two days that I was so happy with. I felt the tears well up  Grrrrrr! So I got up, went to the kitchen for a brownie and a popsicle, and put my feet up in front of a classic movie. Some days it's just not worth it! And Tom Hanks is right: it's never worth tears.
PS I think Santa (me) will bring me a MISTI for Christmas
Oh sorry...I so hear that. There are times I get so frustrated I need to walk away fast before I sweep the desk clean with my arm, sending everything flying everywhere.
We cant get upset about things we dont care about..you are b/c you are sharing a piece of your heart with each card and that's why they are so wonderful when you are done. ((hugs))

Thanks for posting. And sorry you have not been sleeping well. Yes, the Misti will change your life, lol.......but it is true. I am definetly not sorry I bought one. Wow, you made 8 cards quickly and were happy with them. That is huge. Chocolate always makes us feel better. I know what you mean though, sometimes this hobby is quite trying to say the least.

Passionate: capable of, affected by, or expressing intense feeling
Merriam-Webster
Crying IS allowed in crafting. Laughing IS allowed in crafting. Frustration, anger, disappointment, self-satisfaction, happiness, tenderness and love all are allowed in crafting.

A little secret dancing is always healthy in my mind to shake off negative stuff. Get the radio on!
Sometimes when I screw up, the mistake looks better than the original idea lol
I have discovered that for sure this past couple of months! It really builds your chops to have to cover up or adapt to a "mistake" and you often discover a new and better way of doing things.

Actually, I agree with you completely that's why this is a healing as well as fun hobby.
In the spirit of getting back on the horse after you've fallen (I used to ride :-)) I went back to my craft table last night after watching a Kristina Werner video, to try a technique that I have already tried once with some success.
I wasn't that much more successful, or I should say it still didn't look like hers but I managed to create a really nice background that I'm going to use today for a card. This hobby waits for me no matter what mood I'm in, that's one reason I love it so.
I often have to walk away repeatedly on some of my cards. I don't let it get to me (usually) because I come back with fresh eyes and see what needs to change, most of the time. HOWEVER: even with a MISTI I'm on attempt number 5 on a sentiment banner for a card that was otherwise finished three days ago! Good thing my grandson thinks that cranking the Big Shot handle is a good time...
I agree with everything that's been expressed here..but I want to add:
Sometimes you just need to look at the card you have made and say:
"Good enough is good enough."
I read that quote in someone's biography (wish I could remember who it was, lol). It has helped me keep things in perspective and not get stressed out about little things that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

We are also our own worst critics. I think this is true about anything made by hand. We don't give ourselves enough credit at times. Can you remember the number of times you showed a fellow card maker your card, and then want on to point out all the things you could have done better. I don't expect to be able to be the excellent colourists I see here, but when my colring looks good to my eye....it's good enough!
I am trying to change my sleep patterns around to sleeping at night and getting up at 6am. So I often wake up with very little sleep lately. On those days, I do very little real crafting. I just know myself. The simplest things befuddle me. I do the dumbest things and ruin a project. I lose my tools every time I turn around. I repeatedly hunt for my glasses...
Yea, low sleep days are when I clear the decks, clean up and bag up projects, watch tutorials and take notes, etc.
My sleep patterns have been off as well due to a recent trip. I'm napping now for at least a couple of hours, and it obviously impacts my night time patterns too. That has led me to trying some different coloring projects while watching TV late at night. I got some of the adult coloring books and am finishing some card projects from classes. As a person who is mainly a Copic marker user or watercolor lover, I've been trying my color pencils. I used them on a recent birthday card, and was so surprised by my friend's reaction to the technique. I used only one color, shading from dark to light and she was so impressed with asking how I did it, etc. So, funny how tackling even something rather simple, even when we're playing around while tired, can work out. People who don't do this, will not recognize our errors.
