Post office question

I have access to a postage meter machine for cards that we send from our church's card minstry. I'm wondering if these cards go through the regular postal process? Specifically, if I meter a regular sized envelope and then put in a card that is a tad lumpy (a ribbon or a couple dew drops) will the card get jammed like it would with a stamp on it?

Thanks!

I doubt that the meter strip itselfwould make a difference. However, if cards are too thick due to embellishments, the PO charges you extra for that because it can't go through the automatic sorting equipment. If you have any doubts, you should take it to the PO. They have a template to see if it's too thick or okay.

Also if you are involved in swaps, meter strips are only good for the date they are printed out so any SASEs need to have stamp postage on that them not meter strips.

If you have a Fiskars paper trimmer, the little slot down the middle of the bar is the same thickness as the postal measurement. If your card will fit through with no problem, you can probably get by with the regular postage amount.

When I send cards with "bumps" I pad the envelope with an extra piece of cardstock just in case. Also, I put the card in the envelope so that the "bumpy" part is not on the corner where the stamp goes. I think that's the part of the envelope that feeds through the machine and gets caught.

Don't know if it will work for you, but I've not heard from anyone that they got a ripped card or had to pay postage due so far.
