Default Poppin Pastel ?

I want to use black cardstock and stamp a large 2 step stampin butterfly. For the outline I will use craft white. My question is for the solid portion of the butterfly, how do I get my colors. I think I use the chalks but do I use Versamark and let it dry or use the chalks while the versamark is still juicy? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
