Default Which is better for stamping?

Felt or Foam ink pads? and WHY?

I am looking at buying some empty ink pads to use my refill inks on... so which is better for stamping? I mostly have rubber stamps, not acrylic (I have 2 sets of acrylic).

TIA!

The felt inkpads are meant to be used with dye inks, which are quite fluid and water-based. The foam inkpads are meant to be used with pigment inks, which are very thick.

So, it depends on what inks you are planning to make pads from. HTH!

Cool... didn't know that. Thanks! I'll be using dye ink, so I guess it's felt.

Same here! I started stamping in the early 1990s and didn't learn about felt/dye inkpads until I joined SCS. All that time I thought *everyone* just used pigment ink, because those were the only inkpads I ever found and bought.

Thank you, Mel! ;) I've been wondering about which was for which for a while. Do you happen to know what type pad I should use for Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink? I'm thinking foam. I've some of their cat eyes and they're foam. I LUV those cat eyes!! With some things tho, I think I need a full pad, KWIM? I've recently bought quite a few of their reinkers. TIA.
May God bless, Stormy

The fluid chalk cat's eyes I have are foam, so I would use a full sized foam pad myself. I have read Mona Lisa make the comment that she finds the full size pads that Colorbox puts out for the fluid chalk inks aren't as soft as the cat's eyes and she finds she gets better results from the cat's eyes. I just thought I'd mention that in case the blank foam pads you're using to make full sized chalk ink pads with give you slightly different inking results than you expect. I HTH! Maybe there is another SCSr who has tried it out in the past and will post here.

Thanks you, Mel!! Hmm.. I think I'll hold off on a full sized pad for a while. The cat eyes do a great job and I love the chalk ink. I felt maybe I could cut some time inking w/ the reg. pads. I don't want to swap quality inking for time saved. I need all the quality I can get!! ;)
