please rationalize my need for a big shot !!

OK, I have a cuttlebug...love it. I want a Big Shot...why? Please help me rationalize why I must have this....

The big shot will cut through more layers, and easily handle the bigger dies, and you can use all companies dies in the big shot...other than multiple layers and thicker materials the two machines function the same.
If you love roller machines in general you should check out all the great inspiration at www.cuttlebugchalleng.blogspot.com

I have a Cuttlebug too and I love it. The only reason I could think of for wanting a Big Shot is to use some of the "long" dies that SU has in their catalogue ... eg. Movers and Shakers etc. I'm sure that some people have figured out how to use them in a Cuttlebug, but I think it would be a real pain. So does that help any? LOL.

Unless you make invitations, or have to prepare for work shops or classes I don't think the average person would need to cut through several layers of cardstock at a time. For me it just doesn't make sense to buy the Big Shot just on the rare occasions that I would use the big dies. I recently bought a Cricut Expression and purchased the SCAL software and I won't be buying any dies or punches ever again. lol. Love it!

cricut and scal

Hey ronie,

what is that you mention... i have a cricut too.

cardmaker2 09-07-2009 08:58 AM

I have no problem helping you rationalize! You need to use the bigger dies, you need the heavier duty equipment to use chipboard and such. I'm sure you need the big shot!

There, does that help? ...I am happy with my CB but I'm just trying to be helpful!

I had the Big Shot but sold it and kept my Cuttlebug. For what I used them for they both did the same things... I don't use the bigger dies, just my Nesties. I love how portable my Cuttlebug is and I'm very happy to have the extra room. :)

Do you want it?
Would you use it?
Can you afford it?

If the answer to these three questions is yes, that's all the rationale ya' need, girl.

I have one and I *adore* it. I use it far more than I ever thought I would.

I love that it is non-electric and easily portable.

I was debating replacing it with the Creatopia, due out this month. Looks very intriguing, but, I do not know if it is as sturdy or well-constructed as the Big Shot.

Then I heard about the Big Shot PRO, which can handle 12 x 12!!! It's not due out until November 09, I think.

I'm going to wait now, because I think the Big Shot PRO will be more what I'm looking for than the Creatopia, but until I can make a side by side comparison of the two, jury's out. ;)

If you are wavering because of the price, maybe check out
http://www.scrapbookingalley.com/pro...?bct=t13169504
It is $66.65, free shipping and no tax.

I am in the same boat as you. I have my cuttlebug, and use it with every single project. However, it has a lot of limitations. That's why I'm waiting to see what the Creatopia is like - it's to be released this month (september). It is supposed to be able to do it all: laminate, cut, emboss, AND it has a 12x12" platform instead of the tiny one on the cuttlebug. I check for its release every single day.

My big shot gathers dust.....I use the Cuttlebug all the time however.

Can't help with the long dies...coz I don't have any.

There are SO many different machines out there now. Guess it comes down to what you want and how much you want to pay.

I love my BS and use it much more than my Expression. I'm not a nessie fan but I do love the bigz dies for making treat boxes. If you are making a lot of the boxes the BigZ dies really save a lot of time.

Also that you don't have to cut down your cardstock the way you had to with the smaller sizzix.

I like that it's not electrical - I jammed my BS last year and was able to take it apart and fix it - that's not going to happen with anything electrical.

oh no a 12 x 12 version of the bS - yowza! Now that woud make some awesome boxes if the dies are not to pricey.

Hey Julie - how are ya? P

Mindykid 09-07-2009 02:43 PM

All your dies will work in the Quickutz Epic6 too.

Good! How are YOU?! :D

Yeah, a 12 x 12 version of the BS sounds *very* enticing, doesn't it?

I want it for BIGZ box dies, too.

I love my BS and it's the only machine I've ever owned. When we lived in our old place, I didn't have room for any die cutting machines. When we moved into our new place last Aug, SU came out with the BS and I got it shortly after that.

From what I understand, you can't use all the BS dies in the Cuttlebug but you CAN use all the Cuttlebug dies and folders in the BS.

One of my customers just sold her CB on Ebay so that she could buy the BS. She loves it!

stctrent 09-07-2009 05:01 PM

Love Love Love my Big shot. I used to have a CB, liked it. Got my BS and don't know how I ever did without it. I am always making something for my daughter and her ballet class, school, friends. All I can say is I am glad I took the jump!!

sunnyone 09-07-2009 05:07 PM

I sold my CB in order to get my BS. I was very sad at the time but have grown to love my BS and use it all the time. I have not touched my Cricut since purchasing the BS. The new BS coming out is way too expensive for my tastes and I definitely don't have the room for something that size. Bottom line - Big Shot was a good investment for me.

JanTInk 09-07-2009 05:57 PM

I sold my Sissix red and my Cuttlebug to buy the Big Shot. I love it! I used to try to use teh bigger Sissix dies in the Cuttlebug and always broke plates no matter how I set up the sandwich, so I had to keep the ol' red Sissix if I wanted to use those. But with the Big Shot I only needed one machine!

Cinnistew 09-08-2009 05:56 PM

I have the Big Shot, the Wizard, and the Cuttlebug... the only one I use is my Cuttlebug. You can use the SU! Big Shot dies in the Cuttlebug. I wish I had not bought the Big Shot.
