Pick 5 Future ebay stars
With the retiring list being so large-I know there are a lot of SU! sets that folks will miss out on. I have been thinking about this lately-especially seeing apost where 1 set went for around $150!!!!
Pick 5 sets you think will be *hot commodities* on ebay in teh future with your reasons why.
(get your crystal balls out, LOL)
Here are mine (I have a bigger list in my blog with reasons, but here are the top 5)
*Cruisin' Christmas-not a lot of folks bought it, hasn't been in the catalog for long, but I think it will be wanted by bike motorcycle enthusiasts later on
*Classic Pickups-masculine sets are always sought after later on
*Power Up-can be used for so many things-plus it is masculine
*Pines-great for campers, scrapbookers, manly carsd. Solid images are easy to use.I do not think it is super popular so I think it will be hard to find later on.
*Cheesecloth bg-has just started to really gain popularity-great for beach projects, cooking (like the voila chef), and great texture
Share yours!

I love Soccer (only been in one year)
Hip Hip Horray (also only 1 year)
Classic Pickups
Living Large (only 1 year)
all the wedding sets
PS: I agree with Cruisin' Christmas - it's weird, when it's there, no one buys it but when it's unavailable, everyone wants it.

What about French Script? It sells for over retail now so once it is retired it should sell for even more.
I agree with the Classic Pickups and Cheesecloth as well.

I have this small acrylic one from River City Rubber Works that says "not the sharpest tool in the shed". That would probably make good "Sorry, I messed up" cards.

what sets were this sold on ebay for that kind of money...????? just wondering, cause many sets i dont know from the past.
so when you buy in order to sell them later for good money on ebay, and you dont own this set are you not using it at all and just wait for a good time to sell it?
i was thinking to order classic pickups but i would like to make a few cards with it but i dont think it is a keeper for me. so would you rather not cut it up?

I Love Soccer

Hey Claudia-I know teh most recent I saw a post about was a cowboy set called "Wild Wild West" but I have also seen :Wolf" go for big bucks-and of course the Girl Scout set is a big winner as well!
I personally do not buy stamps just for investments-I buy sets I want and use them. If you want to use them and then resell I would:
*seal my wood blocks 1st so the wood stays in good shape (you can use wood sealer and just go over them a few times before adhering the wood)
*mount really carefully
*clean stamps really well after I use them each time-the least amount of ink stains possible
I do not sell stuff on ebay, but I think people want in really good condition if mounted.

It seems that the "hottest" sets are those that are more specific -- broader use sets, meaning birthday sets and nice flower sets are not that hot, but those focusing on a specific topic (cars, camping, sports, cheer, etc.) are more valuable. I think the reason is that a lot of us tend to buy the ones we can get the most use out of, but we tend not to buy if we think a set is too specific... either it doesn't fit our needs or we feel we just won't get enough use out of it, so there are more of the "generic" ones out there to have, but less of the "specific" ones. Maybe that's why some (soccer, cheer, etc.) are going after only one year, just not big enough sellers. Who knows... just my take on it.

Hi Britta,
thank you... for the tips.
i think thats what iam going to do. i take good care of my sets already but the wood sealer is a good tip.
i will get the ones i like for now and than i still have the possibility to sell what i dont like. unfortunately the ones i had were never a big seller.

Here's the top five according to this post (so far):
French Script - 9 votes
Classic Pickups - 8 votes
Cheesecloth - 6 votes
En Pointe - 6 votes
I Love Soccer - 5 votes
I would have to agree with all of these too!

ITA-from my blog here are some criteria I used:
Quote: What I have noticed is that the “highly sought after sets” seem to be ones that meet at least 1 of the following categories:
*not a lot of folks bought
*were not in the catalog long
*appeal to a hobby/activity (basically appeal to a niche market)
*can be used for both scrapbooks and cards |
it will be interesting to see-especially in like 3 or 4 years-what is *hot*

WHAT?!? You guys don't think that Nice and Easy Notes is going to be a highly sought after, money maker????? I'm shocked!
HA HA HA! Totally kidding and no offense to the set or anyone who likes it... I like it actually, but I imagine ebay is going to be swamped with this set now that it is finally retiring.
Okay seriously, my top 5 guesses are:
1. Classic Pickups (although if we all buy it cause we think it's going to be a big seller someday then it probably won't cause there will be lots for sale! )
2. What's for Dinner (unless they replace it with a "better" recipe card set)
3. I Love Soccer
4. En Pointe
5. Power Up
I also think Best of Cluck, French Script, Wisecracks, Words by Wilson, and Computer Quips have a shot at being big sellers... or at least above their current price.

I think
Gnobly Gnomes (which I recently sold to a friend for cheap, and I'll probably wonder if that was a good idea)
The french Script. (Why do people buy them for more than the list price when they can still get them?)
That motorcycle Santa

the thing is, when more people purchase these sets in anticipation of scarcity, it creates a situation where more sets become available to the secondary market. The more of them that are available, the less likely it becomes that there will be intense demand for them. For example: if a huge amount of people purchase and hoard 'i love soccer' in anticipation of high demand later, they will find that they they are competing against many other sellers who also hoarded. Buyer demand may not exceed the seller's supplies and there fore prices will stay low.

Classic pickups....is that retired from last year? Or is it still available? I was looking in the catty, but can't find it. But I remember it from last year and am kicking myself for not buying it. Perfect for my dad and nephews for cards.

I think for some reason it was not in the Canadian catalog-but could be ordered through DS?
(am I imagining that? Canadian demos please set me straight )
