Default photo editor

can you all recommend a photo editor for me. I want to incorporate a photo with my stamping and need to make some changes. I want to then be able to save the changed photo in my computers photo files. Strangely as long as I have been taking digi I have never edited my photos! I want special effects

I use GIMP - similar to Photoshop but free.

I also like GIMP. I know nothing about editing and it has some auto settings that I used and look good!

Gimp is great - but a simpler one is Picmonkey.com - really has some nice simple tools.
