Awhile ago a stamp company released a stamp set just for pet sympathy cards. I think it was within the last year or so. At the time I thought, "Gee, that's a specialty set." But now I've been asked to make sympathy cards for our Humane Society, can you believe it? So, guess I need that set.
I don't have the answer to you question, but - I do make sympathy cards for the veterinary oncologist where I work. Here are two samples of cards I have made for her. I don't have sentiments on the inside because she prefers them blank so she has the whole card to write in. Hope these help get you going on your sympathy cards:
Thanks, Mel, the one I remember was larger; I think it had a lab. I was thinking it was MFT or Gina K, but I was wrong. I haven't placed my March order with PTI, though; I will definitely include your suggestion when I do.
Beth, thx for posting your cards. I love the one with the sentiment "The season of friendship lasts forever." How appropriate.
Looking at your pretty cards, reflecting on their pupose brought tears to my eyes. I guess I have issues with this. Maybe that's why I was chosen to make these specific cards; I can certainly empathize!
Ladies......Purrs and Pants also has several stamps especially for pet sympathy cards. They also have stamps for both dogs and cats that you could make into your own sympathy cards.
Check them out, the stamps are well made and deeply etched and the selections are terrific!!!

I second Purrs and Pants. There are several stamps that aren't sympathy that you can make into a sympathy card.
These are all such wonderful cards and honestly, bring a tear to my eye. Reminds me of my pets that are over the rainbow bridge..... don't get me started. But anyway, a wonderful thing to send such cards to our friends. My good friend recently lost her beautiful golden so I sent her this card:
I do a LOT of volunteer work with a dog rescue. The sad truth is that I need at least 3 cards a month for lost pets. I can't afford buying the sets, but I love collecting statements so I can change it up a bit.
Someone left a comment on one of the cards I posted in this thread, saying they could not find the sympathy stamps at Purrs and Pants. Here is the link to their sympathy section: Sympathy
I have both of the Clear Dollar Stamp sets, and also the cat and dog set from SU. Purr and Pants has alot of stamps on sale right now too: http://www.purrsandpants.com/
I'm not sure if this is any help, but July last year I had to make my first Pet Sympathy card and had no particular Pet Sympathy sets, so as this was a girl cat that had passed away, I just stamped a cat but didn't colour it in - and added a With Sympathy sentiment that I had in my stash. Kept it very plain and very simple. If I needed to make another card for a dog or another animal, I would do one exactly the same - and I know that it would be easy to make quite a few of them if they were needed - and perhaps just change the cardstock to blue rather than the pink that I used.
Lydia, I just found this thread and saw that you used our set, and that I commented on the card you made.
I have so many thoughts running around in my head right now, because that stamp was not designed for a sympathy card, but goodness, it is perfect for such an occasion. (My mother passed away, and this was her favorite stamp....)
I prefer to send animal sympathy cards using furry family member or by name rather than the word pet. Most people do consider their animals as family members or even their children.
I also appreciated the cards I received referring to my Goldens by name each time. My girls were my children and not just pets.
Lastly, I prefer the images of realistic looking dogs of similar breed to who has passed. As has been said, Purrs and Pants does have all images so you can color them to match the situation and they are realistic not cartoon like.

I'm holding my puppy right now, but I lost my dog of almost 15 years 2 days ago. :(
Patty, I'm so very sorry.... We lost MY dog last February. Dog had been with us for over 13 years, and was the most loving, wonderful, well behaved dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I swore we were done with dogs, and would never get another one after our other two were gone. (We then had 2 other dogs at the time.) I cried for 9 days. NINE DAYS! I didn't get out of bed for 3 of those days.
What is sad, is that my mother just died at Christmas, and I loved her so very much, but I didn't cry but for a little bit after the hospital called to tell that morning....
I think pets, because they love unconditionally, are not critical, don't judge us, and NEVER try to hurt our feelings, are a bigger loss to us. Bless you. I hope you find peace very soon.
We said we were not getting another dog as well, but shortly after we found out our dog was dying we saw a puppy we just had to have. I'm so glad we have our new puppy now and at the same time I know my other dog is at peace because she is not suffering anymore.
Faith, I'm so sorry to hear that you recently lost your mother. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been. (((hugs)))
She is a Beabull puppy. Everyone asks me what is a Beabull?- it's a newer mixed breed. She is 1/2 Bealge and 1/2 english Bulldog. It was hard to get a good picture of her, she's an active puppy!
HAHAH - OMG is THAT a cute combo!! I had to call the DH in here for that!!
What an adorable little creature. I hope she brings you tons of joy!!
Thanks! I had to take her to the vet for her shots the other day and there was a groomer there with her cat (in the waiting room) and she asked me what kind of dog I have. She said she's never seen anything like her and she couldn't figure it out. Then I took my puppy to our local pet supply store and the owner couldn't figure out what she was either...I even made him guess!
She's great with the kids and she's not too yippie (sp?) like Beagles can sometimes be so it's a nice mix and we are happy with her.
