Default Stamping "ruts"???

I made some gel cards for a technique swap that I joined and showed my upline. She said it looked like a Lindsey card. I asked what that meant and she said that my cards have a distinct look to them - and that if she were given a stack of cards, she could pick which were mine.

I know that with makeup and things, after a while we settle into a comfort zone and go with the same look all the time even if it's with new colors and techniques. I didn't realize I did the same thing with my stamping!

Please tell me I'm not the only one!

I definitely think some people have a "style", I think I do. I very rarely tear, I emboss a lot and my cards tend to be very neat and not very adventurous.

I think it is very hard sometimes to do things outside of your comfort zone and experiment. That's why the challenges are so good, they force you to mount your cards in a different way or use certain products.

I think that as a condition of membership everybody should have to do one of the challenges at least once a month (just kidding).

I voted for the second, although I try to do something different, I wouldn't say I always do something different.

I do different things - brads, eyelets, ribbon, colored pencils, blender pens, tearing, pocket cards. But I bet I have a certain look that would let you know my card was "mine".

I think a persons style is more than just using the same colors or embellishments, I think it is the composition. It's how you put the whole thing together that makes your style.

Just don't think of it as a rut - think of it as a style.

Thanks! I can't believe I got that upset about my upline saying "that looks like a Lindsey card"

I've been so moody lately!

I'm the same way so don't feel badly.

edited to say: you're gallery is great! I don't think all your cards have the same style at all.

i try to get out of my comfy zone, but most times it's a $$$ issue to try different techniques, etc.

Plus after dealing with my 3 rowdy kids...i have little imagination left so i usually end up taking ideas from the gallery and putting them to use..

Funny you should bring this up just when I was thinking about it. I was just told the other day that my leaf card done for the sketch challenge was diffidently you. I didnt take it in a bad way because what I think she meant is that I really go for nature. She does think I put a lot into my cards because I do like layers, background and lately dimensional cards.

I really dont know if I stick with one style other than those dimensional cards lately. I like trying new things and I too love the challenges. I find myself let down big time if I dont have something to meet the criteria for the weekly challenge.

The one thing I do get tired of easy is cute. So in our charity work I just had to branch out to the older teens and soldiers. Just how much cute can one person take! Well that depends on the person and my SIL just LOVES it.

I voted the third one but not sure it really fits me. I love that one person is that creative!!!

I was just thinking about this too. All of my mats are ALWAYS 1/8" and always centered perfectly under the top layer. I NEVER crumple the paper (can't stand that) and only since convention have I even thought about roughing up a paper edge. Sigh...I'm working on it.

My sister's husband teases her that she always "bolts everything down" with four eyelets or brads in the four corners of her top layer.

Interesting question...
