Default Paper Piercing Template

Can I get one of these anywhere else besides Stampin' Up in the crafter's toolkit? I ask because I have most of the tools already but I don't have that paper piercing template and I want one to do the faux stitching.

I got a good idea from Granny she cut the needle point plastic to a cardfront size and uses that as a guide for the piercing. It's super cheap too!

I have seen something similar at hobby lobby. Stampin' Up also has the "Mat Pack" which is only the piercing template and the cutting mat and the soft mat for under the piercing template. It is on the same page as the toolkit I think.

You can purchase the Mat Pack for $9.95. It comes with the Paper Piercing pad, template, and setting mat.

So, if you get the mat pack, what do you actually pierce the paper with?

I used a regular sewing needle, worked great! I love the look of the faux stitching, got the white gel pen too, that is a MUST, I simply adore the white pen, it doesn't get absorbed by the paper like the other white gel pens I have.

You can buy the making memories paper piercer by itself for very cheap at Michael's.

Another idea is to use the top of the Stampin' Up invoice. The holes are evenly spaced.

I use the plastic canvas too.

That said I plan to look for the mm paper piecing template this weekend at HL. I don't get to HL or Michael's much because they are too far away. :( (that probably saves me $$$$$)

I just purchased the paper piercing tool from Making Memories this past weekend- love it! I was in the same boat you're in- now I'm good to go, for about $2.50.

I have looked for the paper piercing template by Making Memories at 2 different Michaels and not seen it. I assume it is with all the tools. I will check at Hobby Lobby tomorrow.

You use a white gel pen and draw lines between the holes so it looks like it's been stitched. No thread or actual sewing required. Go to the gallery and do a search for faux stitching and you'll see lots of examples.

You can also use a Quilling needle. That's what I use. It's a bit thicker than a regular sewing needle and it has a wooden handle.

I made my own piercer by taking an upholstery needle and inserting it in a large ball of polymer clay that fits the palm of my hand--saves me alot of pain if I'm doing a large pattern!! I lay the paper and pattern over a piece of fun foam with a cutting mat under that.

I've only done straight rows of faux stitching, but I just turn my mousepad upside down, put my cardstock on it, and lay my ruler down on the cardstock where I want the stitching to be. Then I use the marks on the ruler to guide where I punch my needle through. It's easy to choose 1/8" stitches, or 1/4" stitches, or 3/16", or whatever.

I use the mat pack since I also had the tools and a thumbtack. Thanks for the tip on the MM paper piercer, think I'll go check that out especially since I have gift cards to use from Christmas. I love SU's white gel pen for anything.

I use an awl (with a wooden handle) for piercing-got it at a hobby shop years ago when I was making some moccasins. Cost under a dollar then, I think. I have a mat that I used to use for cutting out patterns for sewing which can be used as a mat. I also use the awl to punch holes for brads.

I had gotten a single paper piercing tool at Michael's before SU! came out with their kit. I did get the mat pack, even tho I had a setting mat - just for that template.

I've found other templates at stamping stores, but mostly they are for eyelets, and making designs. I couldn't find any like in the mat pack.
