Does anyone else despise the NOT so user-friendly website that Paper Crafts has set up for their gallery idol contest? :twisted:
I adore their magazine, but their website drives me mad! Anyone else having troubles navigating their way through the maze? Is there some secret I am missing???
OMG as one of the contestants it's MAJORLY frustrating!!!!!!!!
there are no links to the contest/cards/contestants on the website, so you have to go on a manhunt through the galleries, or search for the group..
what's most upsetting about it is that it's basically a popularity contest, who has the most friends, because no outsider can find the contest, you have to hear about it from someone's blog.. how fair is that??
i know i won't make it far because i'm not as well known, (and therefore don't have a lot of people to point through the PC Idol maze) but it's been fun, and all of the ladies are amazing!! really supportive and talented group.. anyway. hope this helps.. believe me, behind the scenes we're grumbling to the powers-that-be.. .

I can totally empathize with you Tobi, it's been awful, lol! It seems like it gets more confusing every week! We'll see, don't give up though girl, your card is awesome! I don't think I'll make it through either, but here's hopin for the both of us
Yeah, I was looking earlier (and voting ) and one poor girls card is only half showing (at least on my screen ) and one card is shown twice..a full shot and an upclose.
Also, it seems like all the cards should be on one page. Maybe, someone misses that there is another page..those cards may get less action.
Good luck, Amber and Tobi...both your cards ROCK! I think it is awesome you sent in submissions and get this far!
you know what? it has been fun to make the cards, and that's why i've kept my trap shut up till now... lol! 'cause that's what this ALL is about, right?

As a subscriber, I am very tempted to write a letter to Paper Crafts and complain about how they have handled this entire contest. Not only is the website difficult to navigate, but they had all the problems in the earlier rounds and had to throw out votes. It's ridiculous that such a great magazine is doing such a poor job of running a big contest.
I just responded to the email that Tobi wrote to PC, saying yes - it has been frustrating. What I thought would be a fun contest has really been a headache. They never should have tried to coincide it with the new sight launch.
I'm so glad to hear that somone else sees only half cards like I do. I spent all last week emailing trying to get them to fix my half card - with no luck. Apparently not everyone sees it that way - but I do, I could only see a small sliver of my card last week. This week, the same, but with other cards.
I've been sending screen shots and trying to help the effort in any way I can and all I'm told is that it's being worked on. Now this week they posted the wrong image of my card - and I emailed instantly - before even the last card was up - and today, it's still not fixed and there is only one day left of voting.
And then there's the issue of us not all being on the same page - there are 3 cards on page 2. That was going to be fixed as well.
I think the main problem is the bigger CKMedia - I really believe that PC is pulling for us as much as they possibly can but now that they are just a small part of the bigger machine - it's harder to get anything done and what's important to us and PC, is not important to CKMedia or high on the webmasters list of what needs to be fixed (cuz there's a lot)
Whew - my fingers are really going this morning, aren't they. This feels fabulous. LOL
BTW - I lurk here a lot. I've been real intimidated by the talent, speed and sheer volume of inspiration this sight holds - but I do like to peek and lurk....I'll try to post more often, how's that?
And I just read that part now, about one card being shown twice. THAT'S MINE! LOL
That's the one I told them to fix - they put up just the close up and can't seem to find the time to put up the full card so I did it myself I was so completely frustrated. I've been emailing them to just take down the other image and move the voting link over to my image. They are working on it (nearly 3 days of working on it now)
It then made me wonder why we're not posting our own cards like the contestants did last year.
sigh
okay...off to eat breakfast and not think about this contest today. It really has been energy draining.
Yes, I'm also very frustrated with the new website! I used to go to the old one alot but now it's such a pain! I really feel for those who have cards in the contest, it's so not fair for you all right now! Best of luck though!

Like Torm, I responded to Tobi's email too. Even more disappointing is the fact that all of these problems are causing a lack of enthusiasm in the other members of the Paper Crafts website. There have been at least three separate threads started on their message board where members cite the difficulties with the contest directly resulting in their lack of interest. I've been a Paper Crafts member for nearly three years, and I can't even get the support from people I know over there because they are all so disillusioned by the process. Whew...It really is nice to get that off my chest. I was just so excited when I was chosen and now I'm not sure if I'll even try a contest like this again. I hope the PC/CK Media folks understand what a lack of confidence this experience has inspired.
I just feel awful for all of you. You work so hard on your cards, and then this happens.
Last night it took me probably 10-15 minutes just to get to the page where the pictures are displayed, then I had to find the link to the actual voting. I, too, was only seeing half-cards and Sharyn, your double card. I also hate having a couple of photos on page 2. I feel bad for whoever's cards fall on page 2--seems like an unfair advantage for those on page 1.
I am going to write a letter to CKMedia about this. It's a really unprofessional way to handle a contest.
apparently a couple of ladies' MOTHERS have called into papercrafts complaining about this issue!! hahaha. so funny. i'd like to be a fly on the wall for that conversation..

my mom couldn't give 2 s**ts about this.. that's why i laughed. the thought of my mother caring so much about something that it spurred her on to call them is laughable.. those ladies are so lucky to have mothers who care about their craft!

Well - my mom didn't call - but she was understandably frustrated. I don't think it's anything to knock - really. They are fortunate and blessed to have mothers who care that much.
:oops: My mom was one of the "nearly callers." I talked her down, but she was pretty riled up. I may not have the biggest fan base, but it certainly is loyal!
