I read about people that have unmounted their wheels and mounted them on blocks - can you give more details? Did you mount them on the clear acrylic blocks or wood block? Did you mount them as one piece or several stamps? Any tips for this as I am thinking of doing this. Thanks
OK! I keep my wheels un-mounted and laying flat at all times on a page protector in a vertical string tie envelope.
I mount it with a Repositional Glue stick to my acrylic block. Then I stamp.
I would think you could find someplace that would make a wood block long enough to fit a wheel, but they would be costly! I would think that the acrylic would be much easier and cheaper.

I dis-mount all my wheel stamps, and leave them as flat pieces of rubber so I can stamp them as borders or backgrounds or whatever. (I figure if I want pieces or individual images, I can cut them apart *after* I've stamped them.) I don't re-mount them on anything permanently -- when I want to use one, I peel it off its storage sheet, slap it on a piece of acrylic, ink it up and stamp away! When I'm done, I clean it and put it back on its storage sheet. Easy! Hope that answers your question -- if not, ask away.
Nope. I pad the surface *under* what I'm stamping on with several sheets of text-weight paper and it works just fine! None of my UMs have any kind of cushioning on them. Makes them a *lot* easier to cut out!;)

Yes -- a lot of people use binders to store their UMs. I did that at first, but then had problems with the stamps dropping off the pages from time to time. :o Lots of people keep their UMs in CD cases -- I use envelopes that fit in a photo-box. I'm going to try to attach thumbnails of scans here -- keep in mind that the black border around the scan with the UM rubber is a piece of black cardstock I put behind it for contrast. Hope this makes it a little clearer! ;)
Sarah Jane, thank you for asking about this. I logged on this morning just to ask this question myself and then found your thread. Where do you buy plain acrylic blocks of this size? I've not seen them, but maybe just overlooked.
I started UM my wheels because I was SO wheel impared that they just sat in the Pringles container completely unused.
SO anyway, I mount mine on EZ Mount foam and store them on plastic sheets meant for Gallery Glass painting. They are very sturdy. As for the blocks, you can find them from CTMH or on eBay (I don't know if TAC has this size or not, I don't have a catty yet). I got really lucky and bought a set of Rusty Pickle stamps and the plastic they were on was the perfect size
I just checked the new TAC catalog -- they carry a 1x7" block, which would certainly work for the narrow wheels. The jumbos are 2 1/8" wide, though. What I use for all my dis-mounted wheels is the smallest of the 'legal'-sized Evo templates, since I have those in stock already! ;) This template is 1/8" thick acrylic, with beveled edges, and measures 3.25x7.25" -- works like a charm for me. Thanks so much for all the answers, I went home last night and started to pull off the rubber from the wheel and felt arrrgggg- didn't do it I need to get a block and the mount stuff before I have the guts to do this
