Default Ok, probably a stupid question but...

what exactly is chipboard?
I see that it is maybe like cardboard, is this right? Is it harder than cardboard? How do people get it in different shapes, like flowers, etc.? I see that the SU! catty has some letters and accents but nothing that looks like a lot of what I am seeing in the gallery.
Final question: Do I need to buy some?

What's the concensus?

Thanks!!

I just got my flowers through the post today. They are from deluxe designs. I'm just off to find the website, although I got mine off ebay!

Here you go

I love mine, I ordered the two sets of flowers, the paisley and the bookplates.
They are like very thick cardboard. Kind of like the front of hardspine journal notebooks. HTH!

I got a pack of about 10 hearts and a pack of 10 daisy/flowers for about $1.99 each at Joann's; I thought I'd try it out this way but now that I love it, I may by the sets from SU; it is like cardboard and can be purchased in lots of fun shapes but you can make your own from a cereal box or the back of a note pad; did you see the WT challenge yesterday? I think there were a lot of ideas and suggestions there; YES, you need to buy at least a little bit!

Does anyone know if they have it at Michael's? I don't know where a Joann's is near me and my only other option is AC Moore about 45 minutes away but I can get to Michael's in 20 minutes!
I guess I will have to get a little since it sounds inexpensive and give it a try.

I think the challenge from yesterday is where I have seen a bunch of cards using it in the gallery. I am going to try a challenge one day but my problem is that at home I dont have a scanner so it would be a day or 2 later that I get to upload my work...oh well.

Jimmi, you know it's NEVER too late to do a challenge, right??? I know they get more attention in the first day or two, but I very often upload mine late; I have not looked at Michael's so I'm not sure but they have everything else!! If I were you, I would read thru the challenge to see if there are some ideas for you. Have fun!

No you don't need them. Don't believe anything these ladies tell you. They are the evil empire- trying to convince you to spend the rent on stamping supplies. You can live without the chipboard shapes, at least a week!

Ally, that website has some great shapes. TFS I have bookmarked sooo many sites since joining.

I'm blessed that at my part-time job, I get lots of literature which is shipped with "chipboard" (a heavy weight cardboard) between layers. Everyone knows to give it me. If you have a Sixxix machine and some dies, you can use your diecuts. Alphabets, or flowers, frogs, butterflies -- any of the larger dies will work. Just want to mention that the backs of cereal boxes are too flimsy for "chipboard," but you could double the diecut and glue to make it sturdier.

Hey, I've been enabled on this site for long enough, it's my turn to enable someone!!!! At least I suggested something reasonable to start with!! Hmmm, I bought a Sizzix Sidekick that I've never used...maybe I should see if that'll cut thru some light-weight cardboard! Thanks for the idea; maybe I can justify that $60.00 purchase! LOL

AcMoore does carry it - that is where I got mine...although right now I am using up the chipboard that came with my CM pages and backs of pads, etc...

if you have a sizzix with the regular dies, you have ALOT of options (depending on how many dies you have ! I have found that the sizzlits do not work all that well - just not sharp enough I guess!

Someone else suggested using kleenex boxes...for the thinner stuff you may have to double it up as someone else suggested, but you will be the only one to know!!!

Good luck in your search! and to answer your question....YES YPU DO NEED IT!!!! It is my new best friend right now!!!

I bought the SU Lower Simon mostly to use as a stencil for my scrapbooking, which I've already done and am very happy I did. Maybe one day I'll get brave enough to try it on a card.

I bought some at Michaels with a coupon and have not touched it. I think I need to see it demo'd live before I make a decision about it

Aside from the WT challenge this week, the Wednesday tutorial's for this week and last were all about chipboard; super directions! you'll find links for both right on the home page; it's really easy to work with; give it a shot!

The Michaels near me has only two letter sets out of chipboard. I'm looking for plain chipboard that I can use to make more letters, when I've used up the ones in the SU set. I can trace the negative image, but I can't find large plain pieces. Michaels doesn't carry it. Anyone else find any out there? I searched the internet and haven't located any yet.

I was at Target after finding that Michaels only had some sets that are in tins and they are already colored and stuff so I gave up my search until, like I said, I was at Target and they have the packs of 10 spiral bound notebooks for .70 for all 10 so I thought about my husbands cool Dremel that he cuts stuff out with and the backs of the notebooks and I think I will have chipboard very soon.
I am thinking that I can cut out my own designs somehow, I can't draw but i'll figure all of that out when he brings his Dremel home from work, hope it works.
