Default Oh, was I ticked off

at my SIL. It was my MIL's 70th birthday and I phoned my SIL and told her I have made a card for the MIL. She said oh, thats right you make cards, OK. So I get there on Sunday and she heading everyone into the bedroom to sign the card so I take the card I made only to find out she went and bought some ugly card from $1.store and I mean ugly. So I just mentioned I brought my card and she said oh well everyone has signed this one. Well, she isn't going to get any of my cards, again. Oh, and then she said Oh, well you can give her that card, and I said well everyone has signed the other one so whats the point!!!! RRRRRRR
Have you had this happen to you?

She sounds jealous to me, like she had to find a way to make sure your card wasn't used. I would have slipped the card into MIL's bag or something, because I'm sure she would have loved it.
But that was incredibly petty, I'm sorry your feelings were hurt!

I would have given MIL the card and just sign my and my family's name to it. Let your card stand out against the cheapo $ store card from everyone else!

Send your MIL the card in the mail. She will love you for it. It will have even more meaning as it will not be fighting for attention with the other cards given that day.

We just had my MIL's 70th b-day this past weekend and my wife and my SIL both made wonderful cards.

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. I am SO sick of those people that just have to have the last word on everything! She should WANT to use your card. I would definitely send it to her privately. She will love it and love that you thought of her specially and spent time on her like that.

RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Shannan LOL!

I would of given your MIL your card with you and your family names on it only.

And when the SIL birthday comes around buy her the same UGLY $1 card.

yup! she'd (SIL) be gettin' a $1 card from me too!
but keep in mind... only she is accountable for her actions.
and you are accountable for yours. i have wavered on the edge with a SIL of my own so i know where you are coming from!
some times no REACTION (from you) only magnifies (her) pour behavior! others will see without your putting it under a magnifying glass.
sorry- i got a little miffed there... feeling on the defense as i often am.

That's awful, so sorry. I have to agree with what others have posted - give the card you made with TLC to your MIL from you and your family, she is sure to truly appreciate it.

What IS it about SILs??? I know my MIL kept all the cards I made for her. I always made an extra effort and made special cards just for her. After she passed away SIL went through her house and when I asked if I could have the cards back she said she'd thrown them away. I know that hurt my feelings so I know how bad you must feel, again, I'm so sorry.

Ya know, when I started reading this, I thought you were going to go in the opposite direction . I made a card and wanted the receivor to know I made it just for her but SIL wanted to have everyone else sign it. I agree that it would be special for her to get the card from you in the mail. And as for SIL, it's Hallmark or $ Store from now on !

Sometimes it's unfortunate the relatives we end up with when we marry. Give her the card from your family. It will be special to her , which is probably what sil didn't want to happen.

WOW!!! A $1 card? It stands no chance against yours! I'd send/give it to your MIL anyways. It'll get you compliments, and make you shine-- and put your SIL on the back burner for awhile. : )

Well, actually I'm with the 'jealous' crowd' People are just jealous because you did something that were either not able or willing to do.

I kind of have the same situation. My FILs b/d was a few weeks ago, and my inlaw siblings pool our funds to buy a gift, but we all still furnish cards.

My SIL noticed the envolope to my card that I had made for my FIL and she immediately said "oh, that's a FANCY card". Well, let me tell you, I was so not impressed. I did not at all appreciate the things that her tone implied. Then I began to think . . . does what she says really matter? . . . and the answer was a resounding NOT AT ALL. . . . because my FIL fully appreciated his handmade card and remarked upon the time it must have taken to make it and expressed his appreciation for my thinkng enough of him to take the time to make something special just for him.

Besides, really, do you REALLY want to share the glory? Not that it's all about us in particular, but don't we all want the recipient to know where the card came from and that it was hand made and that WE the creative people thought enough of the person to invest our personal time on them? My guess would be YES.

I say, let everyone sign the dollar store card. The homemade card is the one that's going to be remembered.

I think more people appreciate homemade cards. They know how long they take to make, and that you thought of them when designing the card. My husband went over to his Mom's the other night and she told him that the Easter card I mailed her made her day. She said some days she doesn't even go out to her mailbox because it's usually empty. My cards are far from grand, but, sometime's a person just needs something like a card to know people think of them. I think you should make sure your MIL gets it.

Yah I would also send it in the mail, cuz we ALL know how cool it feels to get gorgeous mail!!

And then, maybe, I would invite my SIL over, and teach her how to make those beautiful cards so she wont be jealous anymore!! And she wont be rude! Then she may try to start showing you up with her card-making abilities!! And you two will be stampin all the time!!

Well, I tried.....

Just to play devil's advocate here..
By any chance, were you late to the party? It sounds like there were people signing the card before you got there. Maybe she thought you had forgotten or maybe she was worried she wouldn't have time to get everyone to sign the card. She might have had that card for a while and just pulled it out to use - I have a stash of cards like that.

Wow, some people are so jealous ... I feel for you, I would have been terribly hurt if that had happened to me. I too say give your MIL the card anyway, just from you ... she will appreciate it. And, being the recipient of some of your cards, I know that they are WONDERFUL cards!

I would have signed the other ugly card and then sent the one I made and put a little note in that you wanted her to have a 'special' card because you cared for her. Then for the SIL.......... $.50 cards for her. You know they sell cards at the Goodwill. Don't spend your time making cards for someone who doesn't appreciate them.......they never will 'get' it!

I wouldn't either - I'd take a piece of typing paper, fold it in half and write Happy Birthday with a sharpies and give it to the SIL. She obviously has no taste and wouldn't know the difference. Save the $1 for postage to send beautiful cards to more appreciative people.

You should have just given her both cards and had everyone sign them both, too. You can never get too many cards and no one wants a $1 store card anyway so that one probably would have went in the trash when your MIL got home and yours would have went on the mantle

Some people are so jealous!
