Non-Christmas sets used for Christmas cards

Can you give some examples of sets you use for holiday cards that aren't really typical holiday sets? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking of Lovely As A Tree. What else do you use, and what is the most creative use of a stamp set for a Christmas card that you can think of?? You can also post links to specific cards, if you'd like! :-)

I just used the gnome set. I used the gnome that is reading a book I colored his hat in red and put trim and a puff ball with liquid applique. I also colored his clothes in red and green. I was thinking.... he's making a list, and checking it twice. I think it turned out quite cute.

I plan on using Noble Deer to make some holiday cards this year, at the request of my dh. I don't really have a plan yet though...

There have been a lot of people on here that have used the Cool Cat set and put a santa hat on him. Last year I used the cat from Trick-or-Treat and used small letter stamps to say "Meowy Christmas" Here is the link to that one.....really simple....

I know one that I am going to try this year is a lamb or sheep stamp with 'Fleece Navidad' under it. I think that is such a cute idea!

Paint Prints in red so it looks like a poinsettia (sp?). Really elegant!

I have also seen someone use the leaf stamp from All I Have Seen in green and accented with red.

You could also use a cow stamp with a santa hat.

That's all I can think of right now but I'll be sure to post if I think of more!

non- christmas stamps

I used the noble deer last year. It turned our really nice. I just modified the example in last years catty. I used ruby red, craft, and garden green. The vellum I stamped Holiday greetings and placed it at the botom of the card. Dh loved it as did all of the est of the recipients! Have fun with the cards this year! Taishea

I think that you can use any set if you use the colors red and green. I have used Love without end, monster mania, a zebra stamp, hearts, and aliens.
Here are the links to some of them. Just be creative.

I'm planning to try some things with Pines this year. I also saw a really cute card (don't remember whose, sorry!) where they made Paint Prints look like a poinsettia (sp. too lazy to get dictionary)

I am planning on using Shapes and Shades this year. Last year I used Greetings Galore and A Greeting for all Reasons.

Vine and Berry to look like holly

I'm using Do the Hula for my Christmas cards this year. I'm drawing lights on the palm tree, like a Christmas tree.

ornaments from Little Pieces

I am using this as my christmas card this year (I think!) I have to admit that it's not my original idea though! I believe AndreaSophie made a card using a stamp from Flower Filled as little ornaments and I know another person did a similar card as well (sorry I can't remember who it was and if it was Little Pieces or not) Anyway I used Little Pieces... here is a link to my card...

I'm planning on using a beach or seashell set with a cute saying about wishing you a happy holiday with this "Instant Vacation"

Bevstamps 09-23-2005 04:31 AM

A few years ago I used the Christmas trees from the Pines stamp set. I stamped the tree & then stamped it off and repeated this all across the card in bliss blue with the trees overlapping somewhat. I added snowflakes and edged one side of some of the trees with glitter. I also stamped a greeting on the front. These cards were awesome; sorry I didn't keep one to upload here.

I saw a couple of samples in the gallery using the snowflake from Made from Scratch. I tried it and they turned out very well.

vdub_fan 09-23-2005 05:32 AM

That Cool Cat definitely looks like a HER, not a HIM.

I used Paint Prints in Real Red and Glorious Green in a OSW. I posted it a few days ago. I got the color scheme from SweetHeidiJo. They turned out really nice. My dh liked those the most. Here they are.

cards that are christmas

I have gotten a card from a swap back where the girl use Beautiful Batik.she used reds and greens and stamped merry christmas and it was gourgeous.very nicely done I would of never though of using that set for a christmas card, but it was beautiful the way she designed it.

Glittergal 09-27-2005 09:37 AM

Hi Susan! Cool thread, thanks for starting it. I'm getting all kinds of great ideas for Christmas cards using sets I already have!

I just made one this weekend using the Baby Jesus in a manger from All God's Children, minus the sentiment, and instead I combined two of the Curvy Verses together to make "One little baby...wrapped in a whole lot of love." Here's a link to the card (I hope it works...I've never done this before)

Have a nice week!

I have used the winter tree stamp from "Tree for all Seasons". It is very under-stated. It looked good on a forest green paper for the card, stamped in forest green on a white or cream background. Simple, but pretty!

nickelini 09-27-2005 11:20 AM

One year I used Beautiful Batik. I made one of the flowers into a snowflake by silver embossing it on brocade blue card stock. Instead of Merry Christmas I stamped Mele Kalikimaka with an alphabet set.

You could also make Christmas cards with Close to Nature, Simple Somethings, Paris in the Spring (use the presents), Build a Blossom (the large flower petal looks like a Christmas light bulb to me), Ageless Adornment, Great Outdoors, and Images de mon pays (watercolour the scene to look like a snowy day).
