I tried this and loved it! It is truly a no-waste method! I tried the other way per some other tutorial and had to see the difference for myself. I'm going to share this with others at a February workshop. Many thanks!
I made the old style criss-cross card for my xmas SAS (yes I know I'm insane!) and I was really irked by the amount of paper wasted, I knew there had to be a better way!
I really like the look and style of the criss-cross cards, but had avoided making them because of all the waste. I've been wishing for a better way. Thank you so much for sharing!! Such a great idea!!!
Thanks for sharing these instructions! Last time I made a criss cross card, I couldn't stand the idea of all that wasted paper, so I cut most of the panel off that would have overlapped. I just left a small strip to glue on one side. This way is so much better, no waste at all! Thanks....

Wow, this is awesome! I just made my first criss-cross card and I wasn't sure I'd be repeating the experience very often since it ate practically a whole piece of cardstock. Thanks so much for posting this!
Lynn, thanks for sharing the instructions on how to make the "no waste" criss cross card. Your directions were very easy to understand, and the visuals were so helpful! Can't wait to give this a try!

GREAT! Thank you so much, I want to do this for a punch class, but I was trying to figure out how I could cut down on the waste! thankyou thankyou thank you!!
[QUOTE=lbirus;8347443]I love these criss cross cards but I hated the waste so I figured out a way to fold it so there is no waste AND no glue at the bottom to get in the way of the insert. Just another take on the other great folds out there!
Well I just LOVE what you did. Thanks so much for sharing. Had I had time I might have figured it out on my own. AH, Not! How cleaver you are.
Perfect! Too bad I didn't see this post the first time around. I used a criss-cross card for my valentines this year and couldn't stand the thought of wasting cardstock (and extra bulk) so I tried to engineer an alternative method. I cut my cardstock 4 1/4 x 11 and folded in half. Then I cut the front panel diagonally and flipped it around to create the cross. It still left me with a bottom that had to be taped. I like your way so much better! Thanks so much for sharing
I've seen the no-waste criss cross design before and still didn't use it because attaching the side pieces with adhesive took too much space away for the card that slips inside. Inspired by Ibirus, I pondered on it and came up with attaching the sides with the decorative paper you would put on each triangle. It takes away the decorative border on the sides but it does what I want, which is to give me clearance for the largest interior card possible.
Cut the decorative paper longer on the side that goes along the side of the card about 1/2". Score that half inch. When you glue the paper on, bring that half inch over to the back of the card and glue in place. You could still have the border left on the bottom and angled top edges of the triangles. Now you have a criss cross card that takes half a sheet, is fully secured and will take nearly a full sized quarter sheet inside.
Now the juices are flowing. Instead of using the decorative pieces, you could also make a strip from a border punch and use that for the attaching the sides. Or stamped hinges..or decorative tabs...or....darn it! I have to go to work.
I SO wish I had seen this before I did a criss cross card at my January stamp camp! I'm still finding triangle scraps everywhere. Thanks, Lynn, for the awesome idea!

You are so very clever, both with the card and on the computer! Thank you for such explicit directions, very easy to follow. I saved your word file for reference. Thank you bunches, and bunches. I have always wanted to make this sort of card, but shyed away from it because of the paper wast.
