Cracked Glass! I absolutely fell in love with this technique from the TLC a few weeks ago. I'll link the tutorial to this post. Make sure you put NYDC5 in your keywords!
To do it:
Stamp the image and color as desired.
Apply Versamark to the entire surface of the stamped layer by pressing the whole pad down on the cardstock.
Sprinkle with Glassy Glaze or UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel). If you don't have either of these, use regular clear embossing powder.
Heat to melt the powder.
Repeat the steps to apply 2-3 layers of the Glassy Glaze. If you are using regular EP, you will want to repeat 4-5 times. You want a pretty thick layer of EP on your image.
Place the image in the freezer for 10 minutes or so. Freezing it will allow the EP to crack. After the time is up, take it out of the freezer and start bending the cardstock. Don't be shy...it takes a bit more oomph than I expected to get it to crack.
If desired, you can smear a dark color of ink on top of the cracked image and wipe off the excess with a tissue. The ink will settle into the cracks, highlighting them.
I do it with about 6 layers of regular clear EP, but the glassy glaze is on the SAB order I submitted today!
Oh and I forgot to say that if you don't have clear ep at all, then you can do a card with any kind of heat embossing instead! Don't let that scare you off. But you must promise to order some and try this....I gave my cracked wedding card today and I had a lot of questions on how to do it and my new stepmother asked when we were doing it at stamp camp....I said never, it takes too long!
Okay, here is my finished one, nothing amazing, but it is okay. I plan to make a little notebook to go with it like the one I did with the blue challenge.
I have wanted to try this since I got a RAK using this. Not sure I have everything I need. Wonder if Joann's is still open?

I feel badly that I can't play, but I don't have any embossing tools at all! I know.. gasp! I've promised myself to get all the colors of classic ink and cs first. But I'll have fun watching what everyone else does with this cool technique
Emily, Should it look wet when it is melted and ready or do I need to heat it more ( am using Glassy glaze ) and it went everywhere, lol, it looks like salt all over my table
This is crooked and the scanner cut it off, but oh well. This was a lot of fun! I'm not sure I got enough Glassy Glaze on mine, but it cracked some. Next time I'll do another layer (and there will definitely be a next time for this!). Thanks, Emily.

Yep, it should look wet and melted. You should see the powder "melt". After that I usually set it down and put the extra powder back in the jar to use again. Then I versamark the image again, that way if it is still kinda wet I don't mess it up!
And if you have no embossing stuff.....make something glittery!
At least you didn't Overcrack it like I did! Let me tell you, that's the worst. Especially when you spent a long time watercoloring your image and then you crack it so much it chunks off! Made me want to cry!

I'm so glad that happens to other people!! I feel your pain!
Or...when you get done and there is a hair or something in your UTEE. I was wearing a chenille sweater once when I did this and there were red fibers in my image! :(

Good to know about redoing the Versamark. I just kept adding powder on the hot EP, but it didn't cover everything the 2nd and 3rd time. I'll do it the other way next time. Thanks!
wow!! fun! time consuming! and beautiful when they are done!
i only had clear ep and actually ripped part of it when i went to crack it, so i did emily's suggestion and smeared choc. ink over the cracks. this is soo fun!!

I've done that before and I just re-melt it and try to fill in the crack with some more EP. Sometimes it works! LOL
I'm taking a quick break from cooking supper to say that I hope to get to try this later this week! Go ahead and call me a wimp, but this is something I think I'm better off waiting for until the kids are back at school and DH is back at work.
The cool thing about these challenges is Im forcing myself to use stamps I havent used at all before or that I use seldom. This is made with a 'virgin' set.
I love pixie pink and green galore together. I made a card just like this before but this time add the cracked glass. Don't know how well you can see it, but it is there. My next project: Taking a BOW TYING CLASS!!! LOL!
My image is in the freezor...will complete the card in a few. Used clear UTEE with three repeats. Hope it works OK. Will upload the completed card tomorrow. Thanks...this was a fun challenge... when I first saw your cards Emily I knew I had to try it...this challenge gave me the "push" I needed.
Ohhh, I just found the challenges & jumped in! Mine is in the freezer now; hope I can finish the card before DH is ready to leave to see King Kong! I'll have to stay up late & try some of the other challenges; so glad to have a chance to try this technique at last!
