New stamps-what isn't out there? Young artist needs ideas for stamps!!

I have a young friend who is a brilliant artist. I don't mean rubber stamp good, I mean Art gallery good! (No offense to any rubber stamp artists out there, I've just noticed some stamps are quite simply drawn which suits me fine, I love em but the detail he puts in his work is amazing, almost like a photo stamp!!) He has been given a chance to present some art for a rubber stamp company and needs ideas. What would you like to see in a stamp set? What isn't already out there? Being a guy, I suggested he start with manly images since so many of us have trouble making guy cards, who better to know what works for guys! Now he is 15 so nothing risqu but otherwise, go for it! Let us know what you want. He can pretty much draw ANYTHING!! Thanks!

Gee, that's a tough one. There are so many stamp companies out there covering just about everything. One thing I can think of is there aren't that many ethnic stamps. I'd like to see some nice Native American stamps. And maybe more hobby themed stamp sets. Another idea is stamps sets for states! You can do the state bird, flower, state outline, etc. That would be nice. HTH

Realistic goat breed stamps or realistic goat scene stamps. I can find many cutesy goat stamps or drawing type stamps, but not nice representations of the breeds.

There was a post on here earlier this week about the lack of tech stamps, like computers, stereos, ipods, etc.

Serenity Stamps has a great goat stamp -- realistic, the head, but expressive and way cool ;)

Here's something that a teen artist could get into -- I'd like stamps that have environmentally friendly sayings, such as "Love Your Mother" with a picture of the planet, or a stamp with a big recycle symbol and "Please recycle" so I can stamp it on every card.

Also, I'd love stamps that use lyrics of different songs as the sentiment. Such as "All You Need Is Love" by the Beatles (that could look masculine too) for maybe a Valentine's Day card. I'm not sure about copyright issues with something like that, though.

I agree with some realistic animals. I hear alot on SCS just before/after a new cattie comes out how dissapointed everyone is with the lack of realistic animals. Just a thought. I'm horrid at coloring, and I don't really care for animals that much, so this is just my two cents on what i've seen!

SophieLaFontaine 08-07-2009 01:50 PM

Cars and Monster trucks?

Luciesfloozies 08-07-2009 03:24 PM

I agree with realistic animals,(different breeds of dogs).
I have a couple of dog ones, but they are too "cartooonie".
Just my 2 cents!!

Stuff to make things for other 15 year old boys, lol! I can't keep using the same snowboarder, kwim? How about a set (or two or three) with real expressions that might come out of teenage mouths? Obviously ones that wouldn't upset a mother, lol, but authentic nonetheless...

stampin_in_atlas 08-07-2009 03:59 PM

Muscle cars. Classic right on up to the 2010 models. They make great guy cards. :)

Ditto, I was going to say the same thing. When it comes time to make a card for a teenage boy, I can never come up with anything good. So tell him to draw sets of what things he likes, or other boys his age are into. I'd be the first to buy a set for teen guys!

Iriseyes 08-07-2009 05:43 PM

Any stamp with realistic animals - domestic wildlife, farm or exotic.

petcrazy33 08-07-2009 05:57 PM

I also would love to see specific dog breeds, Bulldogs!!! love em!!!

I am a crazy pet person! LOL I would love to see a guinea pig stamp!! They are so darn cute!!!

True! I'd love a stamp of a 1967 SS Camaro like hubby had when we got married. I could make some great b-day/anniversary cards with that. Maybe coasters.........

We really need some stamps aimed at teenage boys. Like video games - skateboarding-motocross and so on.

Oh great, now that song is running through my head! Oh well, at least it's a good song.

Okay, sorry, back to the topic at hand ...

I would love to see realistic interpretation of dog stamps of different breeds. Oh and yes, masculine stamps would be nice to start out with like a few havea already mentioned - motorcyles, cars, animals, etc...

Good for him...way to capitalize on his talent! Make sure to tell us when he makes his BIG debut! This must be so exciting for him at this young of age!

vanislandwoman 08-08-2009 09:07 PM

Since he is a guy, and is artistic, let's not forget that not all boys are into the cars, sports, etc. So perhaps some non-stereotype guy stuff...an artist doing a grafitti wall, or video gamers, or something?
Good luck to him!

Freebird_Stamper 08-08-2009 09:52 PM

I would love some muscle cars myself. I would also like more ethnic stuff. A lot of the African American things that I have seen look to elementary. I would really like to see some thing up to date.

allensm 08-08-2009 10:10 PM

there aren't a lot of detailed people stamps out there that would fit on a card for landscape scamping. Also, don't know what company he's presenting to , But Stamping up doesn't have a lot of detailed stamps that are outlined and they don't have people either. They also don't have a set for different types of water (oceans, river etc. Sky ( different types of clouds ) and Buildings, beach houses, city sky lines, small towns, different types of houses. Male dancers, (ballet, tap, jazz)
roller skaters, ice skaters, snowball fights among children. Hope this helps.

I have a chihuahua, so I have been looking for chihuahua stamps. The ones I see are very cartoonish, and sometimes they are wearing a Mexican hat, etc. Not for me. I would like asome nicely drawn realistic ones, in a bigger size, maybe 2X3, or even 3X4 inches. Also, a row of chihuahuas sitting together in a row representing the many different types, maybe a white one, black one, long haired one, spotted one, tiny one, bigger one, etc. all sitting in a row. That would be cool! :D Also some chihuahuas wearing some cute outfits. I would like a whole set of chihuahua stamps.

laweeden 08-09-2009 03:24 AM

I agree with teen boy stuff - I always seem to end up with generic stuff like polka dots in nuetral tones - boring.
I have also recently gotten into recipe swaps and can't seem to find alot to do with cooking. SU has a set and I found a couple sets but they are limited. Things like a set with casserole, crock pot, cookies on a sheet or mixing bowls, spices, utensils (tongs, spatula,) or sets different fruits or veggies. Not very exciting for a teen boy to draw, but just a thought.
Good luck to him.

SewBlonde 08-09-2009 03:57 AM

Ancient Egypt! Pyramids, Egyptian symbols, the Nile river, obelisks, etc.

SandyStampin1 08-09-2009 04:45 AM

Boy stuff, and more boy stuff. My son is only 8 and I am finding it hard already to do boy stuff. He is not into sports so that narrows it down. He is very much into video games. I found one set by Lizzie Anne but not much else. I would love to find a stamp of a boy playing a video game. One handheld and one on the tv would be even better.

Lisa G. 08-09-2009 06:13 AM

What about a Wii-like system stamp set? You could have the big screen TV stamp and create scenes inside based on the games kids like -- sports and non-athletic pursuits. Also, a boy stamp and a girl stamp (backs of them) and the Wii-like controllers. It could be like SU's Loads of Love and Loads of Love Accessories, where coordinating stamp sets are sold to be part of the main set.

For example, there could be a bowling accent set with pins, balls for the kids to hold, lanes, etc. Then, you could stamp the bowling stuff on the screen and have the boys/girls holding the balls.

This would be great for party invitations too -- swimming or bowling parties, etc.

So many options...

Anyone think that realistic stamps of people in families would work? I was thinking of a set with people walking shown from behind holding hAnds but with interchangeable people like an older male and female (grandparents or older dad/mom etc), adult male (dad or uncle or older brother) adult female (mom, aunt, older sister), male and female kids plus a baby in a carrier that can be masked on the adults back. I've never seen anything like that and it would be mix and matchable for any family! Maybe a dog thrown in, the people's hands could hold a leash instead of one another's hands and since the children's arms would have to be up from the elbow to reach the adults hand, images like an ice cream cone or balloons could be included to fill the empty hand if the child stamp was used alone. Anyone think it's a good idea? Any thoughts for expanding the set? Or a companion set?
