Default Would this be taboo to use in a Stampin Up swap...?

I love the swaps with my SU hostess...
I have used all the SU items, and her swaps are pretty laid-back and she lets you use disconnued SU items as well as the current ones...

But every once in a while I want to use a little non-SU item like a brad or a colored pearl or dew drops or even a non-SU item like a crocheted flower or what-not...I do know if it is an item that SU sells in general, like brads or ribbon or of course paper ink stamps and cardstock, you should use their stuff..but sometimes a little added non-SU item is kind of a breath of fresh air, and I especially like the colored pearls and dew drops for cards...

I guess what really got me wondering is I follow an SU demo's blog and her blog is of course all her SU cards, but on occasion she has used what I know is not SU ribbon. or she has used dew drops or Prima flowers or the colored pearls.....

So do y'all think using dew drops or colored pearls would be okay...?
I did email my hostess and this is what she had to say-

"The general rule with the card swaps is that you can use anything that Stampin' Up! has ever sold (retired sets, papers, etc.). If it is some accessory that they have never sold and you have it from another company it is okay to use. If it is something like a brad or ribbon, and we sale brads and ribbons, then you should use Stampin' Up! Does that help? (I'm usually not too picky on swaps.)"

now I of course know to stick with SU papers, ribbons, cardstocks, inks, stamps, brads, and ribbons...but she really did not answer my question about colored pearls...? or dew drops....? I am thinking dew drops MIGHT be okay, but SU does have the basic white pearls.....so the colored pearls might be a 'no'...?

Plus it would be nice to make a dent in my stash of Primas and dew drops....;)

You could always PM her and ask her to see if it is ok with her first.

She did say: "If it is some accessory that they have never sold and you have it from another company it is okay to use."

To me that says you can use something like dew drops, but since they have sold crocheted flowers, brads and such, you shouldn't use those. I agree you could PM and ask her about something specific.

I only do SU only swaps! Mainly demos do them for obvious reasons but there are a lot of crafters out there who are SUO as well. I was even before I was a demo....

If I'm going to a SU event then I only use SU products. If I'm going to a non-SU event then I'll use whatever I want. Usually a mix of SU and other products.

Usually if it's SUO, then it should be SUO but when I was a demo, I got more than a few swaps at SU Regionals that had tons of non-SU items on them, so lots of people don't follow the rules. If the hostess says a few non-SU items are okay, then go for it. If it's supposed to be SUO, then use SUO even if it's stifling or restrictive. Usually if someone does a SUO swap, they're using it for ideas for SU products and if the other people in the swap receive the non-SUO items like those non-SUO demo swaps I got, those are of little to no use for them. They could have done an any-company swap if they wanted any items.

I'm just curious why anyone would sign up for a SUO swap if you wanted to use other products??? I don't use other products so I wouldn't sign up for another companies swap.
