Question General card sizes?

I was cutting some cardstock last night and wondering what the general sizes were?

I'm trying to get more into cards so I can use all these cute stamps for more than scrapbooks. Anything helpful would be appreciated!

Most of the time, you cut a piece of 8.5x11 CS in half, and fold each half for a card - so the most common is 4.25x5.5.

That being said, any size is OK. Lots of times, I use a leftover piece of CS and make an odd shaped card. The only issue is finding an envelope to fit!

As in scrapbooking, there is no right or wrong - anything goes. Just have fun with it!

The only thing to be careful about it envelope size. There are some odd sizes that require more postage. Square for example.
There are lots of enevelope templates available on line - just google for ideas. You can design your cards around those, too. Have fun!

Mostly I use the card blanks that Halcraft makes. The smaller size is 5.5"x4" (after folding), and the larger size is 6.5"x5". Michaels has them and they're pretty affordable if you wait for the sales. I've made a template for them in Publisher so I can print from the computer directly onto the card if I choose. I've used some other card blanks, as well, but what usually stops me from making odd sized cards is the necessity of designing envelopes to go with them.

That said, I've started making 3x3" mini-cards lately, so I had to design envelopes for them. (I found the basic pattern in an origami book that I have.) I was already using the same pattern as a template for making envelopes for quarter-fold (half an 8.5x11 sheet, folded in half) cards out of 8.5x11 paper or cardstock.

99% of the time I'll use the standard A2 (5 1/2 x 4 1/4") but once in a while, I'll make something non standard BUT make sure it will still fit in a standard envelope to avoid extra postage. HTH.

I usually make a quarter sheet sized card (A2), but sometimes I'll do a 5x5 (you can use a 5x7 envie to avoid the postage issue) or a 5x7. I like the bigger size better, but it's more cost effective to do the A2 size.

mostly I'll do the standard quarter page sized card. I have recently started making bigger cards, but I usually get the envelope first and work from there sizewise.
