Default Gift ideas for a new grandma?

I would like to make a special gift for my friend who is about to be a new grandmother in a couple of months. The traditional gifts (like baby toys) won't really work since the grandchild is out of state. So what kinds of things can I put in a gift basket for her? I thought of a grandma related onesie and a brag book. TIA!

I think that a brag book is a great idea, or a scrapbook that she could just fill in with pictures and journaling. You are a wonderful friend!

Yup....that was my first thought...was a brag book. Or something really small that she can carry in her purse with photos because a new grandma ALWAYS wants to show off her babies!

Brag book would be perfect! My mom carries a photo album in her purse to show off all of the photos of her grandkids.

I like the idea of a grandma onesie ("Spoiled rotten by grandma") that she could pass on to the baby. That could be fun too!

I agree with a brag book. I think a fun one would be a Jacob's Ladder. There's a tutorial right here.

Ooh, I forgot about a Jacob's Ladder, too cute! I'm also including a pair of panties that say "Granny" on the bottom, get it? Granny Panties! LOL, can't help myself on that one! I wish I could come up with a granny panties card, hmm...

Oh, does anyone have a link to a tutorial to make one of those name books? Where it says "Jackson" and flips with each letter?

OK the granny panties is funny even tho *I* am not granny NOR grandma but Gigi. My MOTHER is "grandma"!

Brag book, picture frame, my friends also gave me stuff for the new baby (to send on) a g/c to babies r us, one friend crocheted an afghan, two made thank you cards for the new mom< figuring I was up to my ears in birth announcements. You could also stamp a piggy bank for the college savings account or the grandma's ticket to visit account. I think I have seen them at ac moore.

a special baby's first christmas tree ornament
or you could plan a day of fun out when she becomes "worlds (second most) young and beautiful grandmother" a pedicure and lunch or shopping. Because thrilling though it might be, it still is a hit to think you are in any way "old" enough to be a grandmother!

I made 6 x 6 photo albums for some friends that were having grandkids

I have pictures of all of the super simple pages in my gallery but this is one of the pages...

6x6 Grandma Album by psychkim at Splitcoaststampers

I am NOT a scrapper so the payouts were easy and went together very quickly.

How about a pre-paid phone card for getting all the latest news?

Picture frames
Magnets to put photos on the fridge
A pin or brooch that says "grandma"
